Came home and found my vizio tv model e550i-52 on. have to unplug it to turn off. will turn off with remote but after a few seconds it turns itself back on.

Try taking out the batteries of your remote to see if there is an issue that is causing it to turn itself on.

If the problem continues there may be something wrong with the TV if you don't have any setting on for it to wake up out of sleep mode. I would take it back to whoever sold you the TV.

Tv remote doesnt work

Programming a universal remote does not change any settings for the TV. If the original remote is not working you may want to try changing the batteries. If this does not help, the remote itself may be bad.

How to program this remote.

Hey mate is there a set button on your remote? or similar type of command, if so, turn the tv on by its main on/off button on the tv itself then stand back and point the remote at the tv, now press the SET button down for a few seconds, if you see a flashing light on your remote this means it is searching for a IR signal, cool now just keep pressing the on/off button on the remote say every 2 seconds, as soon as your TV turns OFF press the SET button on your remote and hopefully it should be tuned in and you can use the remote to turn your TV back on and play with menu and stuff. Press the the cursor key up followed by down and power the TV off with the remote or the TV itself. Please use the original remote for this. Unplug the TV for a few seconds...replug and power the TV on. The second thing to try...press the cursor key left followed by the right key. Power the the TV off with the remote or the TV itself. Unplug for a few seconds...replug and power up the TV. Some of these TVs left the factory in the service mode. The fix is pretty simple. Thanks asking and show a few hands of support!
