I have a Canon MX700 kombi and since the last change of the black ink cartridge the printer does not print in black. It shows a full black cartridge and no error message also the extensive print nozzle cleaning does not help. The mechanical movements seemed to be ok but the black ink jet seems to be not working. As my wife has the same printer I changed the cartridge to her printer and everything works fine, so it is my printer which has a problem. I have tried all service routines but nothing also power off and on didn't help either.
You have a clogged jet and ink has dried inside i reckon... the only other thing it could be is the message from the logic board (its motherboard) inside printer isnt getting to the print head or print head itself has malfunctioned - i would suggest to fix but it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one but dont give up.... sometimes they do work if you print pages even tho there is no flow and the heat may dislodge blockage if there is one... But heres a video that may help...

Excellent solution. May want to run the maintenance clean head action from the printer menu on the printer and also print a horizontal line test page to make sure the heads are aligned properly.

you have a purge unit problem, if you have done a few cleans then throw machine away cost more to fix it. but a new printer

Did you try to wipe the cartridge.Maybe there's a clogs. inside.

If you don't use it very often the black could have dried in the printhead, and you will need a new one. Another possibility is that the purge unit is not cleaning and priming the printhead properly. I have seen several defective purge units. For 1 year it can be replaced under warranty, after that it is a $90.00 repair job in the shop.

Sounds to me like the printheads are either clogged or the printhead itself it bad. Page 86 of the manual explains what to do. Print the nozzle head check pattern, if the black is missing then go ahead and go thru the print head cleaning. This should start unclogging the printhead.
If you still dont have black then go ahead and do a deep print head cleaning.and if you still don't have any black ink coming out onto the paper then for sure the printhead is bad and would need to be replaced.
At that point, contact Canon and get the part number from them so you can shop around and find it at a good price.
