MX700 printer does not print in black

I have a Canon MX700 kombi and since the last change of the black ink cartridge the printer does not print in black. It shows a full black cartridge and no error message also the extensive print nozzle cleaning does not help. The mechanical movements seemed to be ok but the black ink jet seems to be not working. As my wife has the same printer I changed the cartridge to her printer and everything works fine, so it is my printer which has a problem. I have tried all service routines but nothing also power off and on didn't help either.

You have a clogged jet and ink has dried inside i reckon... the only other thing it could be is the message from the logic board (its motherboard) inside printer isnt getting to the print head or print head itself has malfunctioned - i would suggest to fix but it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one but dont give up.... sometimes they do work if you print pages even tho there is no flow and the heat may dislodge blockage if there is one... But heres a video that may help...

SOURCE: black not printing

Excellent solution. May want to run the maintenance clean head action from the printer menu on the printer and also print a horizontal line test page to make sure the heads are aligned properly.

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP500 New Black ink cartridge produces no ink

If you don't use it very often the black could have dried in the printhead, and you will need a new one. Another possibility is that the purge unit is not cleaning and priming the printhead properly. I have seen several defective purge units. For 1 year it can be replaced under warranty, after that it is a $90.00 repair job in the shop.

SOURCE: Black ink does not print. Color works fine.

Here is the maual for your printer:

http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0300000450/mx700_qsg_us_v1.pdf

Sounds to me like the printheads are either clogged or the printhead itself it bad. Page 86 of the manual explains what to do. Print the nozzle head check pattern, if the black is missing then go ahead and go thru the print head cleaning. This should start unclogging the printhead.

If you still dont have black then go ahead and do a deep print head cleaning.and if you still don't have any black ink coming out onto the paper then for sure the printhead is bad and would need to be replaced.
At that point, contact Canon and get the part number from them so you can shop around and find it at a good price.

Canon mx700 not recognizing cartridges

I suspect that your have a damaged refilled cartridge. Also, you may have a clogged nozzle. Canon printers are sensitive to the quality of the ink used in the cartridges and refill ink sometimes does not meet the manufacturer's specifications. You can check this by inserting a new OEM cartridge, running the deep cleaning utillity three times and a aligning the printhead. The other problem may be that the electronic chip on the refilled cartridge may either be damaged or blocked by dried ink. In any case, you need to discard the failing cartridge and replace it.
Let me know if this solves the problem. Thanks.

I use my MX700 only for black & white matters. It sometimes refuses to operate, informing me that my color cartridges have run dry. How do I overcome this?

Unless you have chosen to print in "true black" where only the black ink cartridge is used, your printer automatically will use some inks from the color cartridge to make black. (The reason given is so that your color cartridge will not dry out and cease to function when you do need it for color).

You did not provide your operating system. If you can find your printer name listed in "Control Panel" (usually in "Printers and Faxes"), right click the name and choose "Properties". See if you can find an option to print only using the black ink cartridge.

I hope this helps!

One of my ink cartridges is finished and I can no longer do anything (scan, print with black only etc). I don't want to replace the cartridge - just want to print black and white.

There is some procedure if you check the manuals that , you hold down change ink button and keep it held for 3 secounds then the printer will accept it as a new cartage. Dont know how it works for this printer but yes there is a procedure in doing this.

Printing too red

At this point I would offer that you bight the bullet and get a set of OEM Canon cartridges and do all the deep cleaning etc and see where that puts you. The third party cartridges may have caused some kind of problem, and not any "damage"
