I downloaded the bios update from HP website and all was well until the laptop restarted and was flashing the rom which froze at 33%, i left it for around six hours and it was still at 33% Of course after i powered off and on again, the caps lock led blinks once and key combinations such as Windows+B do not bring me into Bios recovery mode. Please help
Sounds like you had a motherboard problem before you flashed the bios. Most likely due to the failed flash the motherboard will need to be replaced. It most likely wasn't you're fault. The file you downloaded from Hp for the bios may have been corrupted as well.A lot of times a failed bios flash will be due to the motherboard being bad
the laptop is brand new, although you might be right as i was having some strange BSODs with hibernation and sleep not sure if its related or not...
and the cap lock led code means there is a cpu failure
Well good luck and sorry for you're bad luck with the laptop. If you have anymore questions just ask.Have a great day!

It would seem that your BIOS has become corrupted somehow. First try entering your BIOS setup. I believe for HP computers when you press power tap the F10 key until it opens. There you can try to reset them in some fashion and save. Try rebooting. If that fails then remove the battery and repeatedly press the power button for about 10 seconds.. (make sure it is also unplugged, this is to discharge the power from the system) then replace the battery and try booting again. Otherwise it would seem that you might have tried to load the wrong BIOS into your laptop. Check with HP then if you are still covered or not. :/
SOURCE: Hi... I have a HP ProBook
Could you please let me know what operating system is installed on your system? If I am right, it's not mentioned here. Even if you install/upgrade the bios from cd-rom or usb drive or floppy disk, there are different Update file for different O.S. If you are sure about the Bios update file, then try booting with a CD or using a usb drive.
I too hope that you followed the procedure : download > double-click > make bootable disk > restart > continue with the update and you should not interrupt the process in any way (never should be). But first, before you double-click (make the bootable disk), set the first boot option to floppy disk or cd-rom or usb.
If you can and if you doubt about the bios version compatibility, please send me the link from where you download the Bios Update file. Let me take a look and confirm it to you.
You have to understand that Updating Bios is risky, it's not so simple as most people think and only the instructions (without a tech) is not recommended, no one can guarantee that the bios flashing will be successful and it's vulnerable, sometimes it'll never return once it's flashed improperly or if the process is incomplete. I recommend you to get it done from a HP Center or call a tech to inspect the machine personally and perform the task. I don't mean you are not and you cannot, but if you are sure what exactly you are doing, you'll end up wasting time and money.
If you need further help, let me know.
Good luck.
