Everything can be repaired. You would have to expose the speakers to see what the cracking is about. There are usually abundant drivers and foam repair kits available on eBay.

Not sure of how to wire these speakers ( internal ) Bose 901 series iv

Found on Google Search: "bose 901 internal wiring" You must first identify which series you have. The first two series were acoustic suspension, and used nine 8 ohm drivers in a series/paralel configuration. Series III through VI used nine .9 ohm drivers all wired in series. Series III and IV had an additional terminal for use only with the Bose Spacial Control Receiver. Series III through VI are easy to identify, as there are three ports sticking out the back of each enclose. The 1st two series have no ports.

I have a set of 901 IV with no equializer, I am

As far as I know, any equalizer will work. There is a guy on here that might know more about them, but I never had the Bose equalizer and I have Bose speakers for 35 years. The guy at the electronic store back then sold us a little equalizer at first, we graduated from that a long time ago, and now on the 3rd or 4th one. No problem, works great, sounds better than ever. Hope this helps.

I have a set of 901 IV with no equializer, I am wondering if the equaliser for bose 901 series VI will work?

It will work, but theoretically less than 100% optimally as far as frequency balance; it would be a whole lot better than not having one at all.

Now, if you're contemplating using 901's in a multichannel environment, you have but to ask and I can provide that solution, too. Clue: you'll need a separate 2-channel amp for the 901's.

How do you access the front drivers on bose 901 iv speakers

There are staples in th corners and outside edges of the grills. They are the same color as the grills, so they are kinda hard to see. I use a sidecutters to grab them, and pry them out. Just be a bit patient, so you don't damage your grills.

Bose 901 Series IV BLOWN?

Yes, if you hear any sort of crackling sound, that means it has blown. Given the cost of these units, I would suggest repair. I would also suggest contacting Bose, as many of their products have a lifetime warranty, so you might be in luck. Although, blowing your speakers because you made your speakers go louder than they were supposed to, is no covered in the warranty.

You can approach the repair in 2 ways..
1) Send in to Bose for repair - suggested
2) Take it to a service center, and see if they will be able to recone the speakers or replace. Most service centers are familiar with the 901 series, so you should be ok. If they have no idea what your talking about, stay away.

But yes, they are worth fixing.

Repairing BOSE 901 IV series speakers

The grille will come off if you try to pry it off. Then, unscrew the bad driver. Sort of new ones are sold on E-Bay for not a lot of money. Install the new driver, secure it with screws, and snap the grille back into place.
