Either:
A. Bad battery
Or
B Bad power supply.

Sounds like the battery isnt charging correctly , the beeping is warning you it is running out of power.

Take the battery out , and boot normally with the ac adapter.

Does it work?

If yes, Get new battery. about 70-90 dollars.

If no. Get new ac adapter. 20-40 dollars.

How do I get it to go into bios when pressing f2 doesn't work?

Per the internet site, it depends upon the model of laptop. Here are some examples:

Laptops - Access Bios Settings Key

Issue

The most common Access Bios key is the "DEL" button or "F2". This depends on the laptop model, however, and can be confusing if you do not know which key to press.

Solution

Here is a list of laptop models and brands with the keyboard commands / key for accessing the BIOS Setup:

Acer: F1, F2, CTRL+ALT+ESC

ARI: CTRL+ALT+ESC, CTRL+ALT+DEL

AST: CTRL+ALT+ESC, CTRL+ALT+DEL

Compaq 8700: F10

CompUSA: DEL

Cybermax: ESC

Dell Laptops:

Dell 400: F3, F1

Dell 4400: F12

Dell Dimension: F2 or DEL

Dell Inspiron: F2

Dell Latitude: Fn+F1 (while booted)

Dell Latitude: F2 (on boot)

Dell Optiplex: DEL

Dell Optiplex: F2

Dell Precision: F2

eMachine: F2

Gateway 2000 1440: F1

Gateway 2000 Solo: F2

HP (Hewlett-Packard): F1, F2 (Laptop, ESC)

IBM: F1

E-pro Laptop: F2

IBM PS/2: CTRL+ALT+INS after CTRL+ALT+DEL

IBM Thinkpad (newer) Windows: Programs-Thinkpad CFG.

Micron: F1, F2, or DEL

Packard Bell: F1, F2, Del

Seanix: DEL

Sony VAIO: F2

Sony VAIO: F3

Tiger: DEL

Toshiba 335 CDS: ESC

Toshiba Protege: ESC

Toshiba Satellite 205 CDS: F1

Toshiba Tecra: ESC then F1 or F2

Toshiba Notebook [Newer models]:

  • Turn on the computer by holding down the power button while pressing the ESC key

    • The machine will beep, then display:

    • Check System, then press [F1] key.

  • Release the ESC key

  • Press the F1 key

Acer 5742g Beep at boot up

I have a problem that looks like this one.

At boot up, after the POST, each time the HDD led blinks, the laptop produces a loud "beep", and refuses to boot, as if this phenomenon prevented the HDD to be read.

If I press the power button, it stops beeping. When I release it, it starts beeping again.

If I press F8 at the beginning and then ask for a normal boot, It boots normally. Anyway, in windows, I have some strange activity, like I would continually pressing Alt+Tab. If I press Esc, it stops immediately and then all seems to work fine.

Any clue?

I need administrator password for compaq nx6110

1.) Unplug AC, take out the main battery.

2.) Take out /disconnect the RTC (real time clock) battery for app. half an hour (the period of 5 min as specified in the MSG normally is not long enough).

3.) Plug in the AC adapter (batteries still removed); computer should boot automatically, if not use the power button.

4.) The machine will boot and show the 162-error-msg "system options not set". Use F1 to save the settings.

5.) Shut down the computer and disconnect AC power again.
6.) Re-connect the RTC-battery.
7.) Install the battery pack(s).
8.) Restart the computer.

Can't wake up my Thinkpad..

Try this, Remove battery, Remove RAM, wait... 5 mins, replace the RAM, Then, Plug in the Power supply ONLY. Now press and hold the Power Switch. It should come on.. When/if it does, Shut down as normal, and replace the battery and try again... If it doesn't work now with battery, battery is faulty, or too flat to be any good.. Try an 8 hour, or overnight charge. & try again, if still no good, it is a battery problem,. If not. then you have another sort of problem that you will have to troubleshoot.

LAPTOP IS NOT BOOTING SCREEN REMAINS DEAD, ONLY I CAN HEAR IS A VERY MILD 2 BEEPS.

1>Take the battery out of the computer, unplug all external devices, and disconnect the ac adapter i.e there has to be no power source to the computer.
2>Press and hold the power button for 1 min and then put the battery in and connect the ac adapter
3>Start the computer and start tapping on f10 key till you get the BIOS screen, (grey screen with system informatiom, configuration ,... and etc on the top), press f9 and then press f10 to exit
4>If the issue is still not resolved ,start tapping on esc( may be del if not esc) as you restart the computer and select boot from hdd.

IBM thinkpad t42 boot up problem.

The sympton is rather vague, but I suggest the following options, to be followed one by one, until one of them works for you.

1) Boot your system in Safe Mode (if Windows is your OS) by pressing F8 after the usual "beep" provided by the BIOS after it detects all is fine. If it boots up, which takes a little longer than usual, then your system is probably Ok, although it may have a configuration problem.
Reboot the machine from the shut down menu and hopefully it will work Ok. If not, then, depending on whether you have Windows Vista (or better), try:

2) Boot again pressing the F8 key, but this time locate the option that reads something like "Last known good configuration". Highlight it with the arrow keys and press Enter.
If you have System Restore set on your drive(s) your laptop should boot up normally.

3) The last option would be for you to go into your system BIOS and run at least a HD detection test, followed by a memory test, etc., but I would only recommend doing this if you know what you're doing. If not, ask a friend for help.

Toshiba Satellite A105-s2716 power-up password

Hi, usually to get into bios on a toshiba laptop you press and hold the Esc key or the F1 key. try both of these, if they dont work, try this: 1. Turn on computer by Holding down power button while pressing the ESC key. The machine will beep, then display: Check System, then press [F1] key. 2. Release ESC key 3. Press F1 key If none of these work, we may have a different problem all together, get back to me if so, and i will see if we can find a solution. Hope this helps! Si :)

Start up problems

Normally 3 beeps then 1 is a checksum error, which is related to memory size/types and/or timings being reported as an error in the bios. Try also running in safe mode (F8) on start up and see if you get the beeps; because being able to start it up with an external monitor may mean that the memory error is related to amount that is used for your integrated graphics or a graphics driver error.
