Toshiba satellite a205 webcam says locked by another application

Step 1 : Open Yahoo! Messenger and then click "Messenger," "Preferences" and then select "Webcam." Choose the option "When I show my webcam, change my status message to," and then enter whatever you want your status message to be in the text field. Then click "OK" to finish changing your status settings.


Step 2 : Choose "Webcam" from your Yahoo! Messenger "Preferences" menu and then click one of the following options, "Always ask my Permission," "Allow everyone to view my webcam," or "Always allow the following people to view my webcam." If you choose the latter you can select, from your friend's list, the people who you always want to allow to view your webcam. From there you can also select "Ignore other view requests," if you don't want to allow anyone else to view your webcam. You also have the option to either choose or not choose to select "If I am in a chat room, allow people in the chat room to view my webcam," by clicking the box. If you want to remove anyone who is viewing your webcam, you can select, "Who's watching me?" to remove their name from your viewers list.


Step 3 :Click "Webcam" from the "My Webcam" options in your Yahoo! Messenger "Preferences" menu, and choose "Statistics. From there you can figure out how much bandwidth you are using, as your connection mode, frame rate, image size and image capture type.

Step 4 : Select "Messenger," "Preferences," and "Webcam" from Yahoo! Messenger, and then click "Camera Settings." Move the slider under "Broadcast my webcam with," to select the between faster-speed transmissions or higher quality images. You can also change image size from this option as well as brightness and contrast. Click "OK" to finish.

Click webcam right click exit.

Restart webcam in msn.

If no joy, go to control panel webcam remove/reinstall.

There are several ways. Is there a specific program you are trying to use? there are websites like stickam.com. or aol instant messenger. Also yahoo messenger is another good one. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance please let me know.

You have an application that is grabbing the webcam on bootup, so the best way is to disable this program from runnning. To do this, click Start - Run and type "msconfig" and press enter.

Click on the Startup tab and this will bring up a list of all the things you have booting. Look for webcam manager, and remove the checkmark beside it. Click Ok and then reboot. Problem should be solverd

can any one help me please I want to download A215-S4747 network adapter (ethernet lan RTL8101E) on my vista to transfer it on my virtual xp but I can't find the driver so if any one knows a site or have can you please help me?!

You need to uninstall first the camera assistant software under control panel, programs and features. Once you've uninstall it, Re-install the software update that you've downloaded. It should allow you to re install it. After installaing and before you restart, go to user accounts and turn off the User Account Control.
I guarantee you that it will work this time and you wont have the error message again.

plz scan your pc for viruses (update your anti-viruse definition first) then reinstall your drivers for the camera

ya vista have some problems go to your internet option and download manually the latest update of your webcam .this may be a problem because u are using latest version of yahoo but your web cam do not support it or either add xp also in ur laptop.

Try installing the below hotfix

I don't know what exactly fixed the problem but I managed to fix it. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A215 by the way.

Here's what I did
Control Panel >> System Maintenance >> Device Manager

Go to Imaging Devices and right-click "Chicony USB 2.0 Camera" and choose "Update Driver Software"

First I clicked on "Search automatically for updated driver software" but everything was already up to date. So then I went to "Browse my Computer for Driver Software" and then to "Let Me Pick from a List". I updated the USB Video Device and rebooted but that only made it worse I think. Then I tried updating one of the "Chicony USB 2.0 Camera"'s and that did the trick. Yey. So now my webcam works.
