How can I tell if the lamp is bad?

unfortunately there is no way to test a dlp lamp except for substituting with a known good lamp. But usually in 95% of all cases if the lamp light turns solid red it the lamp needing replacement.

urn on you tv after it goes off
go to front press menu and device at same time
it will recycle and the green will start flashing
count the cycles a three flash pause and than a 7 flash
will mean a bad fan
there is fan in the back that cools a heat sink
it is easy to get to
sometimes the connection goes bad
you can check your fan
dont order one from mit
this is a standard 3 wire 50mm x50mm computer heat sink fan
take yours out and find one to match
cost about 6-8 dollars unless you have laying form old computers
you have to take off the plastic cover in the back no big deal
with cover off yu will see a metal cover looks like a tunnel at the bottom
three screws removes it wires are under
after removal you will see the fan and heat sink
put you filter on the side back on with the two screws
so that the tv will start plug it back in turn power and see if the fan spins
if not check connects no run after that
than replace this fan
mine worked fine with new fan
if need more help you email me at [email protected]

check for popped or raised tops on caps in power supply. also try unplugging set for 5 minutes and resetting it. How about does your color wheel spin up? if your color wheel don't startup then your tv will also shut down. also check all fans they all should be running at turn on. if all fails i would say its your light engine.

Mitsubishi 65in DLP shuts off after a few seconds. There is no warning, and the green timer light is flashing after it shuts off.

My experience with this has been a fan is not spinning fast enough due to dust or wear. Cleaning the sets fans may solve your problem. If you can turn it back on in 1 minute and it does it again it is the fans. Good luck

It is a common failure of the 57" Mits. DLP. The problem is a defective thermistor and is covered by Mits. Contact a local repair shop and they will fix it free (parts & labor)
