It would freeze to a pixelated black and white unchanging picture. When turned off and restarted it would work for awhile but progressively got more frequent. Now it is sitting in my computer room while I try to decide if it is worth the money and effort to fix it or just buy a new one. It was one week past the extended four year warranty when this happened. I work electronics but I do not have manuals or troubleshooting charts for this set. If a confident recommendation of what is most likely the cause could be recommended (such as Mirror control board) then I will take a shot at it. Thanks Mark
I have a problem with my HLN 5065W Samsung DLP that 3 other folks have and no solution. After the set is on from 5 minutes to 6 hours, the screen will freeze in black and white, I can turn it off for 5 minutes and it will display a good picture again. Sometimes the screen will just go dark blue, TV has to be cycled on/off to get the display back. This problem is getting worse, started as once a month, now 3-5 times a day. I have a tech background and can read a schematic, HELP.

We had exactly the same problem with ours a few years ago and it was fortunately still under warranty. A repair outfit came and replaced I want to say the mirrors and it worked for a day - then repeated the problem. They came back out again and discussed possibly having to replace the motherboard - but the guy was driving from 3 hours away and was not happy to be there and wound up just turning it in for us to get a new one. The whole repair was a little skeptical though and what he said and did seemed to not jive so we put it in our garage and kept intending to call a new repair service to see if they could fix it. We did order and replace the lamp at that time and it did not resolve the situation. I've just finally gotten around to this again and was searching today to see if there were any other similar posts. Please let me know if you hear something as we are also debating whether it will be worth the money to have someone look at it.
I have the exactly the same problem now. I've had it looked at a repair shop and they said they could not duplicate my problem. About a month after it was delivered back to me the "pixelated black and white unchanging picture" returned. I had the lamp and the color wheel replaced and it did not fix the problem. Now it's fading with color lines like an old clunker from the 70's. The repair guy told me the motherboard may have to be replaced. I honestly think they have no idea what the problem is and they just want to keep replacing stuff until it works. This is getting ridiculous.
