Hammering or knocking

Whenever I use the water in another room of my house the pipes going to the shower with a Jado diverter with a separate mixer rattle or hammer. It seems to be the hot water side. If I shut the water supply off to that shower the rattle or hammer stops. Any ideas on what a solution would be?

If you do not have an expansion tube on your hot water heater that might help.

SOURCE: I installed a new Delta shower valve. When I turn

It is due to the water pressure. You may need to install
a pressure relief valve at your main cold water line, so
you can set the water pressure and prevent your valve from vibrating, that is it it is annoying you,.Otherwise,
just let it be..

SOURCE: single handle tub faucet will not divert to shower

the diverter on the tub spout is bad you need to replace the tub spout or the pull up diverter if its a separate piece if you have the owners manual with a parts diagram you can order it on line from the manufacturer or a plumbing supply store. you will need to unscrew the tub spoup from the wall to do this use a broom handle or something similar inserted inside the spout and turn it to the left to remove it from the wall

SOURCE: I replaced my Posi-Temp cartridge for the shower

no one ever really figured out why this happens, but you can purchase a "hammer arrestor" to solve this problem. they work good and believe it or not they are best installed at shower valve. good luck

SOURCE: Had a leaky Moen Posi-Temp shower faucet.

I'm not aware of any problems with non moen replacement parts being the cause for a water hammer problem. Start with the simplest and cheapest correction which is using a moen replacement cartridge. If the water hammer persists then you may have to install a water hammer arrester in the plumbing system. This is basically a shock absorber in the plumbing system to stop the effect of water hammer. An arrester will cost you around $10 to $15 at your local plumbing supply shop. If you are not comfortable soldering copper then you will want to hire a licensed plumber to complete the work for you.

I had the same type of problem with an older toilet in my house. It developed a water hammer when it shut off after filling the tank. I replaced the fill valve with a generic universal replacement for about $10 and it stopped. Again sometimes the simplest fix will work. Let me know how it works out.

Why does filling my tub cause the pipes to cavitate?

That sounds like 'Water Hammer', cavitation is something completely different. You can put a water hammer arrestor on the system somewhere.

When you turn shower off it causes a load knocking noise in pipes

Dear John,
And, there is a name for this!
The name is "water hammer".
This is a result of improper plumbing construction .
Whenever you have inlet pipe in a home that has a shut-off attached, ( like a shower or a faucet) there should be an extension inside the wall of the structure roughly 18 inches tall above the fixture to handle the water-shock of shutting off the fixture.
On some remodel jobs, this is not done.
Rather than open up the wall to see, and maybe repair this, another solution is to shut off the faucet or shower very s...l...o...w...l...y.
God bless your efforts.

I have a new uberhaus shower faucet lever type with seperate diverter.prior to install i had no noise problems now i do i have checked all pipes to make sure that they are well atached to framing.i have...

indicates that you have ceramic 1/4 or 1/2 turn inserts in the taps
These taps are very quick action taps and the water flowing is stopped immediately resulting in water hammer
The air chambers you have installed ( accumulators ) may be working but the pipes will suffer the water hammer all the way back to the utility tap on the foot path
Find out the utility pressure to the house and then you may have to install a pressure regulator on the inlet pipe to reduce that pressure to stop the water hammer

Low water pressure with Jado

On the cartidge there should be a little stopper on the stem that sticks out where the handle goes on ( this prevents the handle from going all the way up ) try repositioning this stopper. good luck

I have water hammer when using shower only

Your Delta faucet is open and close the valve very quick. This will produce back pressure on pipes. You need an anti water hammer / back pressure suppressor to avoid this problem. You can find it in local market.

Ahhh... I bought an older condo and I have a bathtub/shower. The shower head is mounted on the wall and a switch at the faucet switches between the shower and the tub. The problem? When I switch from tub...

Normally the diverter in the spout does just that. It's basically just a little door you pull up to stop water from flowing out the outlet to bathtub, and it diverts water to shower head as it has no where else to go, as the door has been shut. Think of a "T", if you have water coming in, it's going to go out both openings if nothing stopping them, and they are at same level, but when you plug lower one, the water flows up and out the other. My guess is your getting very little pressure from head when it's still coming out at tub.
NOTE: before attempting this, make sure you incoming water supply to house is shut off at valve. Anyway, those spouts are usually held on by a set screw up under bottom side of faucet near back of it, (close to tub) there should be a small slot which will probably be an allen head or philips. You back that screw out, then twist and pull and it should slide off of copper pipe. If no indication under there of a set screw then there are also those that just thread on, which requires you just turn faucet counterclockwise to remove. Replace entire piece all in one, and be done with it. Most hardware or home centers will sell just that separate. Make sure you get the one with diverter. (handle that you pull.) Clean pipe well with steel wool if it's dirty and corroded before sliding new one on, and wipe some "vaseline" on pipe to help and protect "O" ring inside spout. Slide new on on all the way and tighten set screw on underside. If threaded, clean threads, add pipe dope or teflon tape and thread it on until aligned and tight. Good Luck.

When installing a flexishower head, install it in front of the actual shower head with a diverter switch. If you try to operate two shower heads at once, you may suffer poor water pressure. There are handheld shower sets sold which are installed to existing shower assemblies with ease. Rememer to use plumber's tape and protect your stainless steel by wrapping you pliers teeth in electrical tape.
