From my earlier post, our compact Magic Chef 'frig was not running at all. It still looks perfect, so decided to check on the repair. It turned out to be the "starter switch," I think is what the switch was called. The repairman said this is a very common problem, so he had the switch we needed in his truck. It was repaired quickly and is running great.
Cost was about $140, part plus labor. A replacement would have been only a few dollars more, but would take more time and effort. FYI, the compressor on these Magic Chef refrigerators has a 5-yr warranty.
Hope that helps someone.

To reset you may have compressor problem
Set your Ref/Freezer per the following:
Refrigerators: 36 to 40 degrees. Ideal temp is 37 Fahrenheit. Note: A temp above 42 degrees promotes bacteria.
Freezer: temp should be -5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideal temp is 0 degrees.
You have to wait about 4 hours for everything to stabilize. If you are still having ice forming inside the freeezer then the rubber seal around the door is probably the problem. If they have a split, tear or crack, etc. it will let warm moist house air into the freezer and turn to ice as it cools. If this happens in the refrigerator it'll turn to water and collect in the bottom of the frig. New seals can cost around $60 per door.
If you pack too much food in the unit it may also cause freezing because the air needs to move around in there and food shouldn't block the vents in the back walls of the unit.
Hopefully this helps..

Usually answered in minutes!
magic chef compact was running and cold -now no coldness what so ever. I've click a "red" button in and changed temp setting, left it like that while at work, returned home and still not cold. Pushed red button again to pop out left it for a day still not cold. Unplugged and re-plugged. Don't know if the motor is working, because it was such a silent running fridge. Never heard a humming sound. What is the "red" button for?? chillinginmaryland
not making ice
Our Magic Chef bar 'fridge is about 3 yrs. old, too. We found it totally dead yesterday. Unplugged, checked the outlet, adjusted thermostat, etc. NOTHING.
By the way, we tried the RED BUTTON, too. That was not a reset, as we hoped. The Instruction Manual for our model MCBR445S (stainless steel finish) identifies that button as the DEFROST button. It certainly had defrosted! Or just died...
FYI.
