When I opened up the foot control, the bakelite inside was in pieces, but looking at the part at the end of the lead, it should still work if I sort out the housing. It doesn't. Any ideas?
Im confused, Stella TSP air electronic has a round black and white air foot with a black air line to the side of the machine like this.
or the earlier Lotus TSP has a electric foot and cable which is made of older style plastics, these are harder to find now but Sewingpartsonline.com carry an aftermarket one like this
No, not cheap parts but beautiful machines that with TLC work so well.

The bobbinwinder spindle is on the top of the machine on the right.
Try to turn the spindle with your fingers. If it is turning easily, good. If not, see below.
Push the spindle to the right and it should turn when the handwheel turns.
If the spindle does not turn properly, remove the two screws that hold the top cover on. DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREW THAT IS ON THE SMALL BLOCK NEXT TO THE BOBBINWINDER SPINDLE.
The top cover will not remove because of the handle. While lifting up the cover, peer under to make sure that there is a small rubber tire on the under side of the bobbinwinder spindle.
If the tire is there, place a small drop of oil on the spindle and turn it until it frees up. Try not to get oil on the tire, it will make it slip. Wipe it off if it gets oily.
Replace the top and retry.

The Cape Town branch has had 2 tries to fix mine. Now I use a home-made contraption.
