There is only one screw and then you just pull it out. Remove all the shelving first.

SOURCE: Bottom Freezer has ice built up

Possibly the defrost element is faulty, this is located behind a cover in the back of the freezer compartment and is attached to the fins of the evaporator. It also has a defrost limit thermostat which could also be the problem. I presume that the fan is working after you have defrosted the unit?

SOURCE: Ice dispensor

Make sure that the "flapper-door" closes about 3 seconds after the ice dispenser button is released. Mine had a habit of catching and staying OPEN. This allows warm air to enter the dispenser / freezer compartment causing your problem.

If it is stuck you have to take the dispenser apart to loosen / lubricate the flapper door cam to allow for free movement.

This is the worst ICE system I've ever seen for a variety of reasons.

Leaking ice maker inside freezer

You didn't say -- was this freezer working correctly for some time before this problem?

It's not unusual for an ice buildup in the icemaker itself to divert water to places it's not supposed to be. The only fix for that is to turn of the freezer (you may have to turn of the refrigerator, too), and completely defrost the freezer. Leave the refrigerator door closed and it will stay reasonably cold. It may take a couple of hours to fully defrost - put some towels in the bottom, as it sounds like you'll have some ice buildup to deal with. You can speed that up a lot with a hair dryer. Just turn it on high, and direct it at the ice buildup, and then concentrate on the icemaker and the area around it.
If you can, inspect the icemaker area and make sure the fill tube is directed into the ice tray, and hasn't gotten bumped or moved so it's pouring water elsewhere.
Once the freezer is completely thawed out and all the water mopped up, start it up again and cross your fingers.

GE Cafe refrigerator stopped working, both freezer and upper compartment not keeping cool.

Is your compressor kicking on? Does the compressor fan work? Is your condenser grill clear of debrie and dirt? Can air get in the back of the refrigerator (no stored items blocking air flow)? Are the condenser coils iced up?

If the compressor seems to be working. Do you have an ice buildup on the freezer side? You might have to remove the inner back panel to check it!

A broken fan blade can cause a noisy motor. or a buildup of ice can cause some noise. If thes aren't the case you will need to have the fan motor replaced.

your evaporator coil in the rear area behind the freezer back panel is frozen over with ice and the coil can no longer deliver cold air due to ice blocking the air flow from the evaporator fan, remove this rear panel, defrost it with a hair dryer, check the defrost heating coil for continuity, they go bad regularly,if not the heater coil under the evaporator coil,it may be the defrost timer in the refrigerator section of the unit that powers the defrost coil that needs replacement

Only upper section of the freezer works, heavy ice-buildup.

Hi,

The symptoms you are describing are typically from a refrigerant (freon) leak. Unfortunately it will be as simple as adding new refrigerant as it will just leak out. The leak will need to be repaired. From my experience with this unit my best guess is that the evaporator coils would need replaced. An average repair cost for this type of repair would be around $400.00.

I hope this helps.

I have an LG LRSC26923TT Refrigerator. The display shows "Er" in the freezer temp area and "FF" in the refrigerator temp area. Nothing happens when I press any of the buttons. However, the refrigerator...

ER FF is a freezer fan error. Basically the mainboard is not receiving a feedback signal from the freezer fan motor within 65 seconds. When this happens the error code will come up and then none of the buttons will work.

You can clear out the error code by unplugging and plugging the machine back in. The error code will come back if the problem persists. Check around the freezer fan motor fan blades to see if ice buildup is interfering with the operation. Clearing out this ice may fix the issue.

If the problem comes back, then the fan motor may be getting ready to go out or the unit may not be defrosting properly.

Hope this helps, please rate my solution.

Whirlpool refrigerator w/ top freeezer

It has a plugged defrost drain. You may need to defrost for 24 hours with unit unplugged and doors open. UNPLUG FIRST!! f still leaks, you need to remove floor of freezer, then the back wall of freezer. Remove ice. At center rear under coils is the drain hole that is plugged up. Use hair dryer to melt ice. Pour hot water in this area to uncover drain. With hot water in area, you can put a 1/4 diam. hose or copper pipe in drain and blow into it while pressing down. It will slowly go through ice, clearing drain.
