-gameboy color - tried multiple games work fine on another gameboy color -screen has dark vertical stripes mostly in the middle of the screen -fixable or not?
It sound like the color or the screen parts inside of the game boy color are not working properly so it would just be easier to buy a new one vs fixing the current one. The current one could be fixed but it might not be an easy fix and the fix might be complicated then.

Did you clean the contacts on the game as well as the system? You may also try setting the GBA back to it's factory settings by turning it on and holding down L,R,A,B and Start

Might be worth taking it into a phone repair shop to see if they can replace the LCD screen. (yes, a phone repair shop - a lot of them do portable console screens too!) If they can't do it, it's probably unfixable realistically.

I hardly think Nintendo would give you that accesory as a gift.
So if not cheap enough for you then go to ebay.com and buy a cheap second hand or replacement one as it is not an crucial or required part.
If you are very concerned about your NDS, instead of that cover you can buy a leather case.

overall its time to let go of the game boy color games try getting a DS its much better but back to your problem... IT IS NOT THE CARTRIGE!! your game boy will not accept the cartrige because of the mechanics in it deteriorating
