I have a nuvi 2597LMT. It does not speak street names

This model has the capability to speak street names. You probably have it set to American English, which only says Turn right or turn left. Go to menu where the voices are. If it says American English or British English, press that name and you will see other voices. Select a TTS (text to Speech voice) like Jack or Samantha or Jill and you will now what a voice that speaks street names. If you can't find any listings, you will need to connect the unit to a PC and download them from the Garmin website.

My garmin nuvi 255w does not speak street names. How do I set it up to speak the street names?

I'm afraid the 255w does not speak street names. A satnav needs to have "Text To Speech" capability before it can speak the names and the 255 doesn't have it.

The speaking part just stopped speaking. Is there something Iam doing wrong? The volum is up 100% but nothing happens as far as the speaking voinc on the Garmin.

check that you have not activated MUTE and also go to settings and select another voice be sure to select a TTS (text to speech)

My Garmin 255W doesn't speak the name of street, why?

You will need to do the following to get your unit to speak street names.
Tools/Settings/Language/Voice,select one that has TTS after its name.
I would suggest that you go on Google and download the 60 page complete Manual which also has Troubleshooting in it.

My nuvi 205w doesn't speak street names.. Can't find setting to activate. Garmin website no help.

Voice activated for streets

The Nuvi 250 and 250W is not capable of Text to speech. Please see this link to confirm:

The Nuvi 250 and 250W can only say Turn Left or Turn Right. It can not speak the street

We have a Garmin Nuvi 200. We want to know if we can get voice directions usinf street names with this model. ..............Tom (Connecticut)

No, the Nuvi 200 does not have text to speech for street names. You have to go with a higher model to do this, like the Nuvi 260.

Our new Garmin Nuvi 260 quit calling out street names (text to speech). It now just says turn right or turn left. It was working properly for about a week then all of a sudden it stopped the text to...

Question: How do I change the Voice Language setting on my nuvi 2xx?
--> Answer: All of the Garmin® automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (example: Turn Right in 500 feet) as well as Text-to-Speech (TTS) voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names. In order to change this setting on the nüvi® 2xx series, follow these steps:

In the Main Menu, touch Tools (Wrench icon).
Touch Settings.
Press the Down arrow in the bottom right corner.
Select Language.
The first line on this screen is the Voice language. Touch the Current Voice option for the GPS device listed to change the Voice.
Select a Voice that is labeled TTS. These will speak street names. Options without the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
Select OK. The Voice has now been changed.

Make sure the voice you have selected has the letters TTS next to it.
