The best way to "Factory" Restore your Panasonic
Toughbook CF74 is to use the original recovery
disk(s) that came with the unit when new.

If you can't find them, you can order them from
Panasonic at the following website:

http://business.panasonic.com/support-computerstablets-dvdrequests

Here is what they say:
Recovery DVDs are available by mail for select Toughbook® products. Windows® XP back up service is only available to customers who purchased Panasonic computers with XP downgrade rights. Windows XP Backup Image and Windows 7 Recovery DVDs restore a PC to its original factory image. The standard Panasonic factory image includes the Windows operating system and all drivers/applications originally installed by Panasonic.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: My Panasonic CF-74 doesn't seem to be detecting

Some motherboard BIOS's allow you to specify how many USB ports you want enabled
go to your Control Panel, System, Device Manager.

go down to where it says Universal Serial Bus Controllers, click the + sign,
you will see a list of devices, probably something like this
via rev5 usb host controller
via rev5 usb host controller
usb printing support
usb mass storage controller
usb root hub
usb root hub

right click on the ones that say via or intel or SIS, or ALI, or Standard open host controller, and choose uninstall.

you will be asked if your sure, and you will see some of the USB root hubs disappear.

If you are asked to restart, choose no, and remove the other via/sis/intel/etc open host controller (s) from your system, when they have all been removed restart your computer.

when the computer restarts, it will detect the USB controller and connected devices, reinstall the drivers/software

SOURCE: i would like to restore my cf 51 to original

Boot with the recovery CD in and ensure the first boot device is CD. Follow on screen instructions.

NB = All data will be lost in this procedure so back up all important data.

If you do not have Recovery CD, you MAY be able to download it from manufacturers site. You will also need Windows CD key handy (Under laptop)

Factory restore

The following information comes from the Panasonic Website:

Recovery DVDs are available by mail for select Toughbook® products. Windows® XP back up service is only available to customers who purchased Panasonic computers with XP downgrade rights. Windows XP Backup Image and Windows 7 Recovery DVDs restore a PC to its original factory image. The standard Panasonic factory image includes the Windows operating system and all drivers/applications originally installed by Panasonic.

Most 2011 models of Panasonic Toughbook computers now have a Recovery partition on the hard drive instead of a Recovery DVD included in the laptop box. The only exceptions are the Toughbook F9, H2 and U1 Ultra which will continue to ship with a Windows 7 Recovery DVD. Besides restoring the computer to its original factory image, the Recovery Partition can also be used to load 64-bit Windows 7 Professional (32-bit ships by default from Panasonic).

You can order the Recovery Disks here:

Windows xp installion does not see my hard drive on Panasonic CF-74

Just a thought but are you using XP Pro SP2 or SP3?

In my experience, only XP Service Pack 3 will see your
Hard Disk Drive, not XP Service Pack 2.

Panasonic CF-72 laptop won't go into windows.

Hard drive is acting weird but it could be corrupt system files as well Best thing to do is to restore the laptop back to factory defaults and see if it goes thru, if it doesn't go thru then try another known good hard drive and if you can restore it back to factory defaults with the known good drive then you know that the original hard drive is bad.
