My kitchenaid k5ss will not turn on My mixer was running and stopped. I replaced the gears but when taking apart I found that the board on the very end was crcked an the bottom was broken. I replaced both and now cannot get it to turn on. I have no idea as to how power gets from the board to make the unit work. To further explain this, when i took the unit apart on the on the larger board there was a spring loose that was hooked up to the to the speed knob but I do not know where it attaches, I hooked it up to an open hole, put the unit back together and then replaced the board on the end having know Idea how to hook up the new board , put everything back together, pluged it in and it dosen't work. plenty of power. Heheheheheh, not laffing at you but with you, You have just assembled stuff in the wrong place and you have to now adjust the speed control board to get the mixer to start up. Go to the KA site click on support click the drop down menu and click on get manuals then on left side of page click first and choose servicer then drop down and list your model number just as it is listed on the sticker under neath the mixer, click or hit enter and you will be taken to a new page with PDF forms the top section is the owners manual and the second section will be the parts list go to the matching model number and click on it scroll down to your manual and click on it, it will expand in a new window, scroll down and you will see the parts for the electrical area of the mixer, it is easy to figure out and you will quickly see the manner in which you need to assemble everything properly, once you have everything put back correctly you will need to adjust the 3 screws on the speed control plate. start with the two top screws chrome on the top of the black and copper plate, turn counter clockwise until the mixer starts, You can find a few good tutorials about this adjustment on utube that you can use as a guide. Hope this helps please let us know if it did.

SOURCE: My Kitchenaid K5SS 300 watt standing mixer launches into the highest speed regardless of the speed ....

I had a similar problem where the mixer would also go to fast speed right away. On the back at the top was a screw that was loose. After tightening this screw I had 4 speeds but no stir speed. I unscrewed that screw and a bolt fell out. This bolt went to threads on the inside of the area covered by that back plate. I put that bolt back on and tightened it and the corresponding one on the other side and wala the mixer works perfectly at all speeds. Hope it helps. Make sure mixer is unplugged before attempting anything like this (wires are exposed when the back plate is removed - some kind of flexible circuit board).

It quick terms, first remove the head. Take off the band, this is where the two halves join. Undo any screws holding the halves together. Remove the pin holding the planetary in place. Remove the trim disc. The planetary assembly lifts out but you may need to work around it carefully lifting it a little at a time.

SOURCE: No power after replacing worm gear in Kitchenaid KSM90 Mixer

Remove the rear cap from the unit. Power comes in from the black wire with the white being common. Hold a voltmeter lead on the white and check for power on the black. Power goes across the bottom of the speed control unit via a buss bar. Check for power on the right side, I think it is a red wire (may be a white one). Power is taken into the motor via that wire, goes thru the windings and the brushes and then out the other brush wire and back to the board. Check for power on the return wire. If it is dead then either the windings in the motor are burned out or one of the brushes is dirty and needs to be cleaned and reseated prpperly [note there is one and only one way the brush goes in!!!! Install it incorrectly and the brush will not touch the commutator.

Try that and see if it runs after cleaning the brushes.

Kitchen Aid K5SS mixer runs for a little while then stops

Check the carbon brushes, they could be worn out. Apart from that you will be pulling it apart to find the burning, that's where the fault will be.

How do you take a 5k5m150 apart

Tap drip ring off, punch out pin through planetary. Remove back cover, unclip black wire and white wire from rear control board. Tip it upside down, remove pedestal. Undo 5 screws around where planetary came from, undo the remaining 4 screws on underside of gear case, pull the cases apart.

If the mixer is brand new then it will be covered under a manufactures warranty. All of KitchenAid products include a one year warranty.
If you are outside the one year warranty you can either send the mixer to kitchenaid and pay for the repair, or you can fix it yourself.
The first place to start will be to take the mixer apart and find out what gears are stripped within the mixer.

Here is a link to the service manual on our website to aid you in taking the mixer apart: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaidservicemanual.pdf

My kitchenaid k5ss will not turn on

Did you remove the brushes at any point? If you did it is possible that the brushes are installed correctly. The brushes have a tapered/dog eared side to them, this needs to be lined up within the mixer, if they are not lined up correctly the mixer will not turn on.

Was the speed control board cracked or was it the phase control board? If the bottom screw on the speed control plate is not adjusted correctly the mixer may not turn on as well.

If neither of those fixes the problem try the troubleshooting steps in the service manual. Here is a link to the service manual for the K5ss mixers. http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaidservicemanual.pdf

Mixer turns but makes a clunking noise, stops on contact.

Hello Martyn,

I understand that you are having a problem with you Kitchen Aid K5SS. When the unit is on it is turning, when a load is put on it it stops. This is due to the gears in the head being stripped. However, we do not know what gears and how many are stripped without taking the unit apart. If you are not interested in taking the unit apart yourself, I would suggest taking in to a repair shop. If you are interested in taken the unit apart please post back to this thread and I will try and walk you thru it. However, if you want to locate a repair shop please post back your location and I will try to locate one for you.

Thank you for choosing FIxYa.com

How do you take apart the KitchenAid Mixer K5SS to get at the gears? The motor runs but the beater doesn't go around. I have an exploded view, but it isn't clear how to begin disassembling the planetary.

My worm gear is stripped

Download the service manual from Kitchenaid, or several other sites on the web. Just google your part number and the words "service manual" and you should find it. Some of the gears in the head are held in with pins though them, and you may not see it with the grease on it. You need to tap them out with the right size punch.
