Sanyo VPC-E760 won't turn on, Lens Error: 16.What does this mean?

My Sanyo Digital Camera VPC-E760 will turn on to review pictures, but when I switch it to the picture taking mode, I get a "Lens Error:16" message.  Sometimes it says "21", either way the camera then turns off and will not come on if in the picture taking modes.  I had taken 24 pictures since Christmas with no problems, but when I went to use it on February 25th, it would not stay turned on.  It has not been dropped or mishandled in anyway.  Is this problem fixable?  Thank you for your assistance.

there should be a recall on this camera, i always keep it in its case and i am very careful with it.. and of course i cant find the darn reciept, but i got it from walmart

SOURCE: my sanyo camera is not working

Well maybe I can solve this..... My lens would not retract and showed two error messages. Tried a number of tricks that have been recommended on this site to no avail. Ultimately what worked for me was pushing quite hard on the barrel of the lens trying to force it back in ( yeah i know, sounds extreme but did'n't think it could make the situation any worse ). The lens remained in the locked out position not moving in spite of the fact that I pushed it fairly hard. When I turned it on the lens retracted and it appears to be fully recovered from whatever was ailing it. Hope this works for you.

SOURCE: my sanyo VPC-E760 CAMERA IS

Dear sir,

this happens when the clearance for the lense mechanism to open and close is being insufficient due to -small bits of sand or lint that may become get trapped in the mechanism which is commom while taking photos in open dust spaces.

It is advised to take the camera to a camera repair shop and have it disassembled and cleaned,if delayed the problem gets complicated

thnk you..take care

Lens Errors 17 & 27 on Sanyo VPC-E760

My camera was showing lens error 12&25 and then shutting off. I tried gently trying to twist and pull the furthest out part of the lens and it popped back into place easily. It made a noise when it did this, and then i turned the camera off, and the lens went back in!! Completely fixed now!!
