Thanks for your help guys.
It all started a week ago- I could not get my monitor to turn on when I arrived home. I typically turn off my monitor, go to school / bed, and leave my computer running. I would move my mouse to initiate it out of whatever sleep/screensaver mode it was in (not hibernating), and it would not turn on. It woulf fizzle, I would see gray vertical lines, then it would just go out. The orange 'power connected' light would not even turn on, which is supposed to be on, regardless of computer connection, as long as the monitor is plugged in.
Early on, when I would try and revive and my monitor would go out, I would wait an hour or so, try and turn it back on, and it would again go through the gray / black lines, and MAY (50/50) kick on and work normally.
Now its at the point where I cant get it to turn on at all, no orange standby light, no power whatsoever, nothing. My CPU is fine, the power cord is fine, my monitor just fails.
Gateway is worthless, they dont want to do anything about it. How can I get this fixed?
Ok, my monitor is working but the light inside the actual monitor, just starts up and then quits, but if you look very closely it still has a picture. this happens when every the power go's out or it turns off and to get it back on you have to turn it on and off and it eventually turns on the light for until it turns off again. Usually it works but this time it just does not turn on i've been trying for 4 days to turn it on but sadly it does not. Please help me!
Monitor will not turn on. Power light on monitor will not come on when power button is pressed. CPU works, power cord works, mouse and keyboard works. Only monitor will not come on. Any suggestions?

sounds like a slightly damaged power supply. try powering up with an equivalent supply. if only an ac wall cord is plugged in for power, then internal supply is at fault

Have you checked the settings in your screen-saver and power options in the display control panel?

Hi this is the way how to examine
what's wrong with your LCD monitors. After you turned it on and the screen
went gray or stopped working, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or
not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best
angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or
any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside
screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot
see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you
have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It
may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board
because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a
technician to do so.
Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,

Try reseating your cable connections. While you have them off, take some compressed air and clean both the connection ports on the back of the computer and cable connections. Check to make sure there are no bent pins on the cable connectors. If you know how, you might also want to open your computer case and reseat your video card and clean your system out with the compressed air. Make sure your computer is completely shut down properly and is unplugged from the outlet when you do this and before you work inside the case make sure you touch the metal side to discharge any built up static electricity you may have so that it does not cause damage to the sensitive components inside your system. If possible you might want to take the monitor and connect it to another computer system, if it works properly on that system, more than likely it might be your video card. Hope this helps

jlichtenegge, Wish all lcd monitor problem descriptions where as good as you have done!!! Here are some suggestions. Use ACER warranty first if valid!!!! If warranty not an option, then do cash+old unit swap for a refurbished same model if ACER has a swapout program for infantile failed units. (short SMPS/CCFL inverter board lifespan) If monitor DOWN TIME is super critical then you or local electronics technician will need to DIY repair unit by resoldering the thermally fractured intermittant soldered to board component lead that is causing "switch-mode-power-supply" to go into full or partial shutdown mode. You may need an inspection grade microscope to visually locate the oxidized intermittant connection. Let me (lmistyrel on aim.com) know what you intend to do fmi Hope this helps. Read more of my fixya profile to get more of a handle on this type of failure. Bye for now.

dbostwick Hi there, Seems that you have a power supply board or inverter board supply failure. Or depending on the age of the unit it could also have failed CCFluoresent light tubes that need to be replaced. Most FPD monitors have 3 or 2 circuit boards. The fact that you have a good screen showing even though it is no longer being "BACKLIT" by the CCFluoresent tubes means that the DIGITAL circuit card is powered and functional. Here are some things to check into. Can you check and see if the manufacturer has a $30-$60 swapout program where you send them your monitor, and they send you a refurbished one in return? Next you can chcek to see if some local tv repair shop knows of someone who can repair it. They would need to know and be familiar with servicing Cold Cathode Fluorescent tubes and Inverter type power supplys. What you are dealing with is similar to those new type screw-in light bulbs only the tubes are straight and much thinner as compared to the coiled tubes used on the new light bulbs. I kinda lucked out when a coworker brought in his Dell and we opened it up and found a failed capacitor on the power supply. we replaced it because the top of it had swollen upwards. Well we put it all back together and waa-laa IT-Worked!!!! It had failed because of a stinking $1.95 capacitor. Well anyway I wish you luck in your quest to repair your monitor.
