If you do not have an answering system (answering machine) on the phone, you need to purchase a answering machine or contact your telephone service provider to get Voice Mail service from them. (Most charge $3-5 per month for voice mail.) The provider will tell you what number to call to set up a voice mail message and access messages.

I hope this helps.

(for most Uniden systems with the answering system, you need to turn it on and then access the system from the handset to set the out-going message and length of incoming messages allowed.)

Press down the "find handset" button until the paging beep stops (about 5 seconds) and this will reset the indicator lights on the handsets.

OK. You have a phone set with an answering machine, yet you continue to pay MaBell for Voice-Mail. Is there any compelling reason. That was my feeling when I first read your question but I thought you might not like what I had to say, so I consulted the Uniden FAQ and here what they have to say.

If you Uniden phone has a digital answering machine, and you also have voice mail through your phone company, the message indicator light will not light up when you have a message in your voice mail system. We recommend you discontinue your voice mail and use the Uniden internal digital answering system.

You didn't specify the model, but you should be able to download a manual from http://uniden.com/index/manuals_results.cfm?cat=1

HOW do l set up answering machine message on Uniden XDECT 8315 home phone

The Uniden XDECT 8315 does not have an answering machine. It will check your voice mail. Setting that greeting depends on your telephone service provider. Check your provider's voice mail FAQ.

To have your XDECT 8315 get your voive mail messages, press Message and then select Voice Mail. Then follow the prompts to enter your voice mail access number. Alternatively, you can press Menu > Global Menu Settings > Edit Voice Mail. See pages 17 and 32 of the manual. (See the link below.)

The manual for the XDECT 8315 is available on the product page: https://uniden.com.au/product/xdect-8315-1/ . The current link to the manual is https://uniden.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/XDECT_83151_OM.pdf .

If you do not have voice mail from your telephone company, you can add a stand-alone answering machine. Just make sure to connect the answering machine to the telephone jack. Then connect the answering machine RJ-11 out to the telephone's RJ-11 jack on the base.

I hope this helps.

How to empty my mail box

Here's a possible solution I found with a search engine:

I believe your callers MAY be reaching a "Voice Mail" system that is part of your phone service - from whatever service provider you have.

To confirm that this is true, simply disconnect the main base unit from the phone cord and then call your home number from another phone (such as a cell phone). If you still hear that "mailbox full" announcement, then you have confirmed that there is some kind of voice mail system active - and full - on your home phone number.

So what that means is that you will need to contact your service provider and get the official instructions on how to access that system - to listen to and delete any messages that are there. Each service provider has different procedures, but you can often call your own number - from your home phone - and get straight into the system. Once connected, there should be "speech menu" that will guide you through the messages and how to delete them.

Also, you may want to configure or disable this voice mail system so that the Uniden has a chance to answer calls while you are away. This usually involves either setting the number of rings on each system so that your Uniden can answer first, by having a lower number of rings than the voice mail system.

There may be other steps needed IF this voice mail issue is not the problem.

Have a new phone serv. provider. How do I reset voice mail?

On base station: menu>base setup>ok>edit voice mail>ok>

then enter number to access voice mail for your service provider. I have Grande phone service so I entered *78. Press ok then exit.

I don't have the built in answering service so I was trying to access my Grande voice mail, but when I pressed the message button, it asked me to enter my Earth Link password. We haven't used Earth Link for a couple of years. This fixed the problem. I just had to mess with it some to figure it out. The blinking light on the handset next to my bed was driving me crazy so I had to figure it out!
