I have a Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M Motherboard with 2gb ram. I want to disable the onboard graphics card and add another VGA card. Which card should I go for?? Will adding VGA card, show physical memory as 2gb...

Hello you can download the manual, and drivers here:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1810#manual

You can add a graphic card 1 x AGP slot (8x/4x-AGP 3.0 compliant), supports 1.5v display card only.
And Max capacity: Up to 2GB DDR400 RAM by 2 DIMM slots.

ATI/AMD makes very good graphic cards.

Adding a graphic card on the mainboard will not slow the physical memory. It has it`s own ram.

Good luck

Nead to replace my motherboard ga-k8vm800m

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16813128262

So you need a motherboard that has a Socket 754 processor socket, supports AMD socket 754 processors with up to an 800MHz FSB, uses DDR Sdram 400MHz ram memory, (PC3200), and has an AGP graphics slot.

From a quick search just now I see a lot of them listed on Ebay.
NOT advertising for Ebay.
I saw other listings on the internet also. (GA-K8N51GMF-RH - Way too pricey!)

Gigabyte k8m800-8237 won't boot with 2nd gig ram installed.

Could have been dusty. Find a copy of Memtest and run it to check things out. Errors could mean a bad stick or bad slot.

Main memory

You could do that. But I would check to see if you couldn't pick up two 1 GB RAM sticks instead. Memory has gotten cheaper & Windows XP is a memory hog that likes at least 1 GB of RAM.

GA-K8VM800M and GV-N76G256D-RH compatibility

Perhaps your power supply is not powerful enough for the new card.
