3Com 3c17304 port 25 up not connecting

The port flashes orange and green even without a cable plugged into it. When we do connect an ethernet cable, we cannot get through the port to the router. We have trouble shot by taking that cable and putting it in one of the other 10/100 ports. This does slow us down. Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks for taking the time to read this.

We have the line to the router in port 1 of the switch. 25 connected the switches from the other side of the building. I have that now in port 3. When I disconnect any other cable the lights quit flashing. Port 25 flashes all the time. Why is that and can I fix it or does the switch need replaced?

  • Rick Spotanski Feb 27, 2009

Thanks. I called 3Com and set up a Rma to get it replaced. Thanks again.

Well I think the port is bad, I had one that did something similar to your problem. I got on the 3Com website and submitted and RMA request and they upgraded my with the newest model. But if yours is still in stock they will replace with the same type. That is what I would do. Hope this helps ya.

I want to know how I can re-set my 3Com 3crwe955275 wireless access point to its default factory settings. Can anyone help?

1 Remove power from the Gateway. 2 Disconnect all your computers and the cable/DSL modem from the Gateway router. 3 Using a straight through Ethernet cable, connect the Ethernet Cable/DSL port on the rear of the Gateway to any one of the LAN ports. 4 Re-apply power to the Gateway. The Alert LED will flash as the Gateway starts up, and after approximately 30 seconds will start to flash more slowly (typically 2 seconds on, 2 seconds off). Once the Alert LED has started to flash slowly, remove power from the Gateway. 5 Remove the cable connecting the Cable/DSL port to the LAN port, and reconnect one of your computers to one of the Gateway LAN ports. 6 Re-apply power to the Gateway, and when the start-up sequence has completed, browse to: http://192.168.1.1 and run the configuration wizard. You may need to restart your computer before you attempt this. 7 When the configuration wizard has completed, you may reconnect your network as it was before

My 3com 4200 28 ports is restarting by itself many

Base from the description of your problem its only showing that some of the port on of your Ethernet switch is already getting bad and this usually happen on switch like this and eventually all port will go bad and will lead to the replacement of the device. With this type of problem you can first try to adjust the speed of your network card to 10 half duplex and check if that will correct the connectivity problem and if it does its just a sign that sooner or later the device is already getting bad and since its only a switch there's no firmware that we can load to it or even a reset button to bring the device back to its default settings.

I get no sync between my network card and the

Make sure your not using a crossover through cable. Also make sure your not connecting the cable into the internet port, which is usually the first or last port.
  • A straight-thru cable has identical ends.
  • A crossover cable has different ends.
  • A straight-thru is used as a patch cord in Ethernet connections.
  • A crossover is used to connect two Ethernet devices without a hub or for connecting two hubs.
  • A crossover has one end with the Orange set of wires switched with the Green set.

When I connect the ethernet cable to my tower, I gave an orange light. What could be causing this to happen?

What Orange light are you refering to? You have an orange and green LED on the block of the Ethernet connecter, if the cable is plugged into the plug and the other end is terminated into another deive such as a modem, bridge, router or switch the orange light(led) should come on as that indicates a valdi link hence being called the link light, the green light(led) indicates data being received or transmitted. If orange flash with sparks(bad) from the plug it means there is power on the cable..very bad as this could be due to the ethernet card that is faulty or the device on the other end of the cable is faulty.

I cann't connect to my switch

The primary connection method for those switches would be serial connection. In the box there should have been a DB9 serial to RJ45 cable. Hyperterminal default settings would allow you to connect.
