Why isn't the buttonhole maker working

I'm trying to make a buttonhole for the first time. I've followed all the instructions in the manual and have gone over them several times. My machine sew three stitches and then stops. I've tried stabilized my muslin with interfacing, the buttonhole lever is down and behind the bracket, and the button is correctly loaded in the foot. Any ideas? Trying buttonhole 29. Thanks

SOURCE: The bobbin thread keeps ending

Suggest taking the machine back to where you bought it and have them try to help if you are doing something wrong, or replace the machine if it has an internal problem. Good luck!

SOURCE: I needle comes unthreaded whenever

first let's deal with the needle becoming unthreaded, Keeping the needle threaded is easy, always keep thread tails of 3 to 6 inches on the top thread & bobbin at all times, & make sure the thread tail are pulled behind the needle before you start to sew,, this will ensure that the thread will not come out of the needle when you start to sew.

you mention the fabric is thin,, do you have a needle that's right for the fabric your sewing?
thin fabric needs a different needle than blue jeans fabric, check your top tension & see what the setting is on, usually 3 to 5 is good.

when the needle & thread are right for the fabric then the sewing is good.

also clean under the needle plate & bobbin area for loose threads or lint

also it's a possibility that the machine could be out of time & would need to be serviced by a sewing machine repair shop-as they have the tools for the job

SOURCE: zig zag stitch not stitching

it possible that is could be the needle, is damaged, bent or blunt
it is possible that the timing has gone out on the machine, if it is the timing only a sewing machine repair shop will have the proper tool to fix the timing

I have a 9960 singer machine and am trying to use the buttonhole presser foot for the first time and I can not get it to sew T

the buttonhole foot snaps on to the presser bar, there's a little lever at the back of the presser bar that releases the foot, then put the buttonhole foot down on the needle plate & use the presser foot lifter (number 11) to lower the presser bar down onto the buttonhole foot & you'll hear a click sound when it snaps on & make sure to use the buttonhole lever(number 31) because the machine won't sew a buttonhole unless that lever is pulled down.

Hi, have tried to use buttonhole feature on singer 4423. Dog feed teeth have dropped - won't come back up and the material isn't feeding though. Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Reverse feed dogs on Singer 4423 Remove extension table so you can see switch on BACK of machine @ left side. Flip switch to raise feed dogs up. If machine actually sewing in reverse - check n Buttonhole adjustment. Reset it (located bottom right side machine) Jimmy

I made a test buttonhole that came out perfectly, but several subsequent attempts have resulted in a buttonhole that is only about 1/4 of an inch. I have rethreaded, removed and replaced the buttonholer,...

Are you sure that you are starting each button hole with the buttonhole slider foot back at the front? I know that they are usually spring loaded but is possible that yours isn't returning fully to the starting position.

Also, it is important to prepare the test buttonhole on a fabric sample identical to the garment you will be buttonholing, ie two layers with interfacing between.

I am trying to think what else could be causing this to happen for you. Are you going through the process where you stitch out the first buttonhole, then save this length and then repeat it multiple times. Or using the button in the back of the foot to provide the size of the buttonhole where there is a buttonhole trigger you slide down in place near the pressure foot.

If you have tried and followed the manual precisely and still arent getting a correct buttonhole out of the machine, then perhaps consider taking it to your local dealer and asking them to watch you go through the process and see if they can spot the problem; this should help identify if it is a machine problem or something you've missed in the process.

Good luck, hope you resolve it.

Ask if someone will be available to look at the machine when you come in .... you need one-on-one assistance.

Bernina Buttonhole foot #3A

Hi, you must have an 1130S which means it could also be a circuitboard issue. If the LED/LCD light for the buttonholer does not flash you either need a new RET-Print (circuitboard) or a new buttonhole foot. Sorry to say that you DO more than likely need a new buttonhole foot according to my manual on this machine. No way to repair the foot that I know of.
You should bring the machine in and try it first.
Guess not all news is good news. Sorry.
