Try this, someone else recco'd it (it may have been here but at another section) but this is free and szeems to work just fine converting videos into a usable format (of your choice) onto your PC.

I have written my own tool SDcopy to copy/convert the original MOD files to the PC as MPG files.
You can download sdcopy from here:
http://zyvid.com/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=280.0;id=217
To edit these mpeg2 files I use Magix Video Deluxe(european version) which is Magix Movie Edit Pro in the US and I am very happy with it.
I used Ulead Videostudio,Womble and Sony Vegas in the past but find Magix to handle mpeg2 files best.

Window 7 compatibilty

Hi, the VideoCam Suite 1.0 is not compatible with Windows 7, but that doesn't mean you can't transfer files to a Windows 7 computer. You'll just have to use another program to edit the videos if you want to edit them.

Cannot transfer videos onto my computer. Took pictures/videos in HD

Hi I faced the same issue with VideoCam Suite 1.0, from some blog I found that the camcorder uses PAL but the software used NTSC, which is not compatable with each other, hence reinstalling a PAL version of VideoCam Suite should take care of the issue.
However I am still searching for a VideoCam Suite with PAL support.

Video Cam Suite 1.0 does not work with Windows Vista 64 bit

Excuseme If I don't explain so clair, because I don't speak english well, but let me try that I did to solve this problem. First I installed a Virtual Machine(VMware Workstation 6.5.1) in miy Pc(64 bits) . Second, I installed a Windows Vista home basic(32 bits) or Windows XP Sp2 (32bits) on it., depending of what Operative sistem do you have in your real machine. And finally I could installed the Videocam suit in the Virtual Machine and everything was ok. I could transfer all my videos of the camera to the pc very easy The only inconvenient is that you need to transfer the videos downloaded of the virtual machine to the real machine with a flash memory or similar something.

Panasonic sdr-h40p cannot connect to my pc

hi all, i had exactly the same problem and finally managed to sort it out, here to share with u all. The AC adapter is the one looks like a battery cable which comes with the camcorder. You have to remove the battery first, and plug the AC adapter into the place where the battery was, then connect the other end to the battery charger. Now you can select the PC connect option and transfer your videos. Hope it helps. =)
