I'm trying to reverse the door opening direction on my Kenmore top freezer refrigerator. I removed the screws attaching the handles that are over the sides of the door. There is a fastener holding to the face of the door though. How do I get the handle off this fastener, I can't find the screw head or anything?
You might try checking to see if the screw head is actually on the handle, but hidden by the handles cover. Look at the side and see if you notice a seam. This can be pried open and the screw head will be seen.

1. Remove the toe grille. 2. Remove top hinge cover if available. Trace around the hinge with a soft lead pencil. This makes the re-installation easier. Remove top hinge and lift door off the center hinge pin, and set the door aside. 3. Unscrew the center hinge pin using an adjustable wrench and save for reassembly. Ensure that the plastic washer stays on hinge pin. 4. Lift the refrigerator door off of the bottom hinge and set aside. 5. Remove center hinge and shim by removing inside screw and loosening two outside screws enough to allow hinge and shim to slide out. Tighten screws. 6. Loosen two outside screws on opposite side of refrigerator, remove inside screw and install center hinge. 7. Remove two screws on bottom hinge with 3/8" socket wrench. 8. Install bottom hinge on opposite side with the two screws removed from Step 7. 9. Unscrew the bottom hinge pin using adjustable wrench. Move hinge pin to other hold in hinge and tighten with adjustable wrench. 10. Reverse door handles. 11. Move freezer and refrigerator door stops to opposite side. Before starting screws, use an awl to puncture the foam. 12. Position refrigerator door onto bottom hinge pin and screw center hinge pin through center hinge into the top of the door. Close refrigerator door to help align hinge hole. 13. Tighten center hinge pin with adjustable wrench. 14. Remove cabinet and hinge hold plugs and move to opposite side. 15. Lower freezer door onto center hinge pin (if you have a separate freezer door). 16. Close freezer door. Have an assistant lift up on opposite side of the door while tightening screws to install top hinge. 17. Flip top grille and reinstall. 18. Plug in electrical power cord and turn refrigerator temperature control to center position. Adjust setting as needed.
There is two allen set screws for each hand at both end and they are facing each other on the handles.. Remove the allen screw and put a very minute speck of jelly on each screw---small-small amount. This will kept the set screws from loosen up. GB...stewbison
I understand that you want to remove the doors from your Kenmore refrigerator. I would be glad to help you with this you will need a few tools to do this here is a list of the tools you will need.
Flat screw driver Philips Screw driver 1/4 nut driver or socket and ratchet 5/16 nut driver or socket and ratchet
1. On the top of the fridge there are little plastic caps on the corners next to the doors of the fridge. There is a screw in the middle you will need to remove this screw in order to get to the hinge. 2. Under this cap there will be 2 or three screws and a quick connect of wires. You will want to disconnect the wire connector it should have a lock you push together and then pull apart. 3. Once wires are disconnected removed the screw hold the door as this is the top hinge. 4. Lift the door and that door is removed 5. Repeat for the other side
The Freezer Door 1. Open the door and notice the drawer that slides with it there are four screws that attach the door to the drawer 2. Loosen the screws so that the door can be lifted up and the door is removed
I cannot confirm weather your fridge had reversible doors as you listed no model but the standard for fridges that can reverse the door swing are changed by doing this -
You will see little plastic covers on the opposite side where the hinges and handles are currently located now.
There are some little clips that hinge the screws on the top and bottom of each handle.
Remove these little covers with a small flathead screwdriver.
Now remove the screws holding the freezer and refrigerator handles on.
Now pop the screw hole covers on the side of the frig/freezer you will using.
Now place and fasten with screws the handles on the other side of the frig/freezer door.
Now remove the top freezer hinge first by removing the 3 screws on top.
Now pull up on the hinge (save the spacer).
Now pull up on the freezer door.
Now remove the screws on the middle hinge.
Now pull up and remove the middle hinge while holding the frig door steady (save the spacer).
Now pull up on the frig door and set to the side.
Now remove the screws on the bottom hinge (save the spacer).
Now put the screw hole covers you removed from the other side in the screw hole exposed from the screws you just removed.
The switch
Start with the bottom hinge and place it on the opposite side (don't forget the spacer).
Place the frig door on the bottom hinge and the place the middle hinge in the hole at the top of the frig door.
Fasten the middle hinge.
Place freezer door on the middle hinge.
Put the freezer door in it's natural position to make putting the top hinge on possible.
You have to remove the doors, swap the hinges to the other side. Start by taking the top hinge off the freezer door (pop the plastic cover off the hinge to reveal the screws). If it has handles (some don't) you will need to swap them over as well. The screws are under plastic covers on the ends. There will be plastic plugs in the holes that will need to be removed and placed into the holes you took the screws out of. This is assuming your model has reversible doors. Most do, but some don't.
Good day, First. Save and mark all shims and bushings you remove in the process. As well remove all food from both doors. 1. Remove bracket from top of the refrigerator with the door closed. Once removed, open top door with 2 hands about 1 foot. Lift off. 2. Remove center bracket and remove as in step one. 3. The bottom bracket can be removed and mounted on the other side, reversing it's orientation. (pin sticking up). 4. remove both handles and remount on other side. There are many plugs that must be removed, to uncover new screw holes. Some may be covered with emblems, but can be pried out with a small screw driver. 5. Reinstall in reverse order checking for alignment as you proceed. 6. Push in all removable plugs when complete.
Make sure all items are removed from both doors, and machine should be shut off.
1. Remove top bracket with the freezer door still shut. With both hands, open freezer door about 1 foot, and lift off. All thru this process keep track of all shims and washers and their location. 2. Remove center bracket holding main door and remove using the same process as with the freezer door. 3. Remove bracket from the bottom and reverse to the other side. There will be a lot of press in buttons to be removed by prying them out with a small screw driver. 4. Reinstall in reverse order, making sure all shims and washers go back where they came from. As well, Tighten screws while making sure the door is in alignment at the same time. 5. Remove both door handles and reinstall. Some screws may be hidden by a cover that will have to be pried away first.
Look on the other side of the door and see if there's a plug covering a hole even with where the door handle attaches on the opposite side. If so, I think you just unscrew the handle from the top of the fridge door or bottom of the freezer door an unhook the other end and reattach on the other side of the door. And unscrew and move the hinge to the opposite side. If your doors can be reversed the holes should arleady be in place. It didn't look overly difficult when the delivery guy changed mine when the fridge was delivered.
