Most microwaves will have a spring loaded latch on the door. The likely issue is the clip for the spring has broken. Unplug it, put it on the benchtop and pry open the inside of the door. It's usually a soft plastic cover that with a gentle persuasion from a flat screwdriver will come off. Start above the latch and pry open as much ad needed. Locate the spring at the bottom, open up one of the fixing loops on the ends with long nose pliers and attach it to a fixed spot around the inside of the door. There are usually metal ribs inside the door and attach the other loop to the base of the latch

SOURCE: Microwave oven runs with door open

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: Microwave oven comes on when

It sounds like either a bad door switch or door switch mount, or a sticking relay on the control panel.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

You can order Panasonic parts here.

Otherwise, I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer.

SOURCE: Sharp microwave oven door won't close!

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

If needed, the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

My microwave door wont stay close , how do i fix ?

Hey Abraham Acevedo, thank you for the post!

From my understanding the door on your Frigidaire microwave, PLMV168, is not staying closed. You could be seeing an issue with either your door latch or latch assembly within the microwave. Since these components require patience and precision to replace or remove from your appliance, I always suggest seeking professional assistance. One must be very careful handling these replacement parts as they can lead to potential harm. -Matt

When I open microwave oven door . close the door again light comes on an plate spins an wont stop unless I unplug it

Inside the door latch, is a safety feature, that prevents the microwave from operating unless the door is closed. This feature can easily become faulty, or even come with the fault already causing the microwave to constantly operate whenever the door is closed.

Microwaves can be very dangerous in regard to holding HEAPS of voltage within the unit. I recommend getting yourself a new microwave, as attempting repairs on any of the modern units can, more often than not, be far more costly then the price of a new one.

Hope this helps.

Electrolux oven door strained and wont close properly

Don't try to run a microwave oven with a bad door. At a minimum, you probably need to replace the door hinge plates. Unplug the oven and remove the top/bottom cover. Study the hinges and door to see how they come apart.

When you have the door back on and adjusted so it closes flat against the frame all around, take it to an appliance dealer who sells microwave ovens (you can leave the screws out of the cover and take them along in a plastic bag or other container). Have the service tech check for microwave leakage. If it is clean, you can fasten the cover and put the oven back in service. If you have leakage around the door, you may have to readjust the hinges, or the door itself is warped and must be replaced.

My microwave works fine, but the light wont turn on! No matter what i do, resetting it, unplugging it, etc.

Hello :

It could be a bad door switch or loose door switch mount . There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly .

WARNING : A microwave oven is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock, even when it is unplugged. I strongly recommend you seek the assistance of an appliance repair technician when conducting any microwave oven repair .

good luck .
