Heater is used to both heat water during clean cycle and dry dishes after wash cycle. Most washers have either a separate switch for Heat or Dry for optional use, or some have the water heat and dish dry options built into cycle set options.

You can save money by turning off the Dish Dry option since it is a very in-efficient way to dry dishes. Instead, open the wishwasher door after washing cycle completes, just enough so fresh air can get into, and humid air can escape, dishwasher.

Water Heat option is only needed for dried food on dishes, and is never needed if dishes are either rised off before putting them in the dishwasher, or rinsed off inside the dishwaser with a Rinse cycle, if they are to stand for a time waiting for a full dishwasher for wash.

My delay light has come on and I cant get the dishwasher to start. The delay light goes out after the time has expired but if you try to move it to the start position the light comes on again

The Control is programmed to stop running and not allow any further cycles if it detects a water heating problem (no temperature increase detected in heated Main Wash on 3 consecutive cycles). The Control will flash the Clean LED 7 times repeatedly and will disable the Start/Resume key until cleared.

To clear and reset the control press in this order: Heated Dry ? Normal ? Heated Dry ? Normal and then let the unit run for 1-2 minutes and then press Cancel and let the dishwasher complete the cancel cycle. The dishwasher should operate normally again unless it does not detect a temperature rise in the main wash cycle.

It could be caused by a Heater circuit problem if it continues to stop and flash the Clean light.

It could have one of the following failures:
Open in heater.
Open connection or component in heater circuit.
Faulty heater drive circuit on control.
It can also be caused by the wash pump not pumping water past the heater efficiently.

Hi-Temp Wash, Hi-Temp Rinse, or Sanitize options.
Some models have options that may require a water heating delay, such as Hi-Temp Wash, Hi-Temp Rinse, or Sanitize. Additional time may be required to heat the water to the proper temperature. The dishwasher will continue to circulate water during this heating delay but the timer will not advance until the proper temperature is reached

Dishwasher heats but when it starts the rinse and dry cycle the heating delay light comes on and won't proceed to the next cycle

Sounds like the heating element is not working. Usually the hot water temp is OK for the wash cycle (110 to 140 degrees) but the rinse cycle asks for 140 to 160 which requires the heating element. (As does the dry cycle).

Water is not coming into my Maytag dishwasher.

Hi,
Is the door open or unlatched?Make sure the door is completely closed and latched. On models with a dual-digit display, the control displays "- -" during a cycle if the door is not latched. Check for obstructions (spoons or utensils), that may be interfering with the door operation. A lower dish rack that is installed backward will also cause incomplete door closure. The lights for cycles selected will flash if the door is opened while running a cycle.
Is there power to the dishwasher?Check your household electrical box to see if a fuse has blown or if the circuit breaker has tripped. If the unit has a plug-in power cord, make sure it is plugged in.
Does your dishwasher have a rotary timer knob? The cycle selection must match the position of the timer knob. Turn the timer knob to the beginning of the preferred cycle. The timer knob should click when you reach the start of the cycle.
Is the control lock option activated?
The indicator light next to the lock graphic will illuminate when the controls are locked. Press and hold the Heated Dry option (button with lock icon) for three seconds and the light should turn off. Instructions are also placed on the label on top of the inner door to unlock the controls.
Is the delay start option activated? To cancel the delay and cycle, press Start/Cancel twice.
Is the water shutoff valve turned on?Make sure that the water shutoff valve is turned on.

Runs forever! even on Normal wash...help !!

Check to make sure you heating element has not failed. Dishwashers of today heat the water periodically through out the cycle and if the element has failed. The heating delay light is the indicator that tells you that it is trying to heat the water.
