My LG E500 SMARTCAM DOES NOT WORK. I CAN'T CAPTURE VIDEO IMAGES WITH IT. yahoo messenger is not compatible with it. i was told i needed to download a compatible driver

If you have the drivers correctly installed, Just try press "fn" + "F10". that activates and deactivates the smartcam.

For your webcam to work with Yahoo! Messenger, it needs to support the following:

1. Either one of these image sizes:
• Small image size: 160 x 120
• Large image size: 320 x 240
2. RGB, I420, or IYUV formats. (Each is fine; we recommend RGB 24.)
3. Microsoft DirectX version 9.0

If you have more than one webcam installed, click the Devices menu and select the one you want to use.

1. Click the Options menu, then click "Video capture Pin."
2. Under "Color Space/Compression:", choose one of the following formats:
• RGB 24 (our recommendation)
• I420
• IYUV
Note: If one of the options above isn't in the list, then your webcam is not compatible with Yahoo!7 Messenger.

3. Under "Output Size", choose one of the following:
• 160 x 120
• 320 x 240
Note: If one of the options above isn't in the list, then your webcam is not compatible with Yahoo!7 Messenger.

4. Click OK
5. Close the ampcap application.
6. From your desktop, click 'Start' and select 'Run'.
7. In the run box, type: dxdiag
8. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
9. On the System Tab under 'System Information', look for DirectX version. Verify that your version is DirectX 9.0. If it is, just click Exit. If your version is older than 9.0 (any lower number).
   
10. Start the webcam from Messenger by clicking My Webcam in the Messenger menu.

in your YM.. open the Messenger tool bar.. then.. My Web cam.. then.. .Preferences.. then Camera source... and select the installed webcam.. and see how it works..

Thanks a lot for posting this.
Today my LG E500's Smart cam also stopped working after my battery was down too much. Didn't know what to do. And I didn't know about this Fn+F10 combination for the webcam.
My webcam works now after activating it by Fn+F10. However, I don't know what made it stop functioning.

the problem is solved simply by hitting the key Fn+F10 in order to activate the cam.
