I have a Sony Bravia 46" LCD, Bose 321 Series III, Panosonic Blue Ray, all connected with HDMI and Optical Cable from TV to 321, Film Trailers play 5.1 but when the movie starts the Bose changes to PCM 2.0 why isn't it displaying 5.1, I have checked the manual and there isn't any real answers for this change, is this normal or is the there an issue.
SOURCE: PCM 2.0
I have the Bose 3-2-1 GS Series II and initially could only get PCM audio. However, I now get Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1 audio through the following connections: 1) Connected a coaxial digital audio cable from Digital Audio Out (coaxial) on the HD cable box to CBL-SAT (D) on the Bose Media Center. 2) Connected a coaxial digital
audio cable from Digital Audio Out (coaxial) on my Toshiba DVD Recorder/Player to AUX (D) on the Bose Media Center. All video connections are from the cable box to the TV and from the Toshiba recorder/player to the TV. To receive Dolby Digital audio, I press either CBL-SAT or AUX on the Bose Remote Control. Good luck!

can you post the disassembly page in with a larger view? This is too small to be useful

I'm amazed at the range of comments regarding this system; they range from unbridled enthusiasm to some **** words.
Before I try to help, if I am not familiar with a specific model but have a clue to what the nature of the problem might be, I research the item to see if I find some support for my suspicion.
You might keep tabs on some comments I found relating to a possible class-action lawsuit due to the array of problems that have appeared with this system.
This link will give you a sample of them:

SOURCE: bose 321 system reads bad disc on all dvds
if will not read a laser lens cleaning disc , then it will need to be opened up and the laser lens will need to be cleaned manually with the cleaning solution and a cotton tip , but do it easy and dry the lens with the cotton tip
if that don't do it then the laser mechanism will need replacing

I have the same system. I have a Lifestyle and a Sony TV with a Samsung Blueray player. I also have an X-box 360, plus my pc with all my CDs (I-tunes) plays through my bose. Do this:
1. Use the optical cable for the blueray player to the Bose (AUX).
2. Use a digital audio cable from the cable box (either black or orange output) to the Bose CBL-SAT digital input. (it's a single audio cable)
3. For my PC, I'm using a digital cable from the pc to the Bose. I'm using the TV output because it's empty.
4. For my x-box (which I'm not too happy about) I'm using regular red-white audio cables from Bose TV input directly to the TV audio out. (You can play all of the above through this channel, but don't).
I figured the most important high quality sound should come from the blueray player and from watching regular cable tv. For picture, you should be using all HDMI connections.
Hope this helps.
