Kenmore elite dishwasher making loud buzzing sound when washing
It sounds like there is something lodged down somewhere in my dishwasher as it is making a loud buzzing sound when it the arm is turning while washing, the dishes are clean, it is still working, but can i fix this myself, will i damage the machine by running it?
We have the same maddening problem. three year old dishwasher that has become incredibly loud. We have the thing apart and can see that the seal leaked and water got to the bearing of the motor. Now we are trying to decide the best option to fix it. Do we take the motor to a motor repair place to have the bearing replaced or just order a whole new motor assembly online? If the bearing is fixed locally, we would still need to order the part that seals the water out.

Possible that the motor is not moving , could be a faulty capacitor to the motor. Also check for the free movement of the agitator, if the shaft is tight then it can cause a drag on the motor. check this link:
I have the same problem as those who stated their dishes are not getting clean. If you listen to the wash cycle you should hear water sloshing around inside. If you hear just a humming sound the washer has no water. I have this problem. I had a tech come and he told me the water is syphoning out my drain and I need to change my plumbing, then he charged me $65. I have lived in this house for ten years. 6 with the washer that came with house and 4 with this Kenmore Elite. This problem started about 6 months ago. So what I have been doing is opening the door, after the humming starts and the sloshing stops, and adding about 2 L of water. It seems to wash just fine after that.

have you ever seen green led "Clean" light flashing? before or about the same time the buzzing sound started? and if so that would indicate that the control senses a fault in the temperature rise during the heating cycle and that the electronic control could be reset by initiating a service diagnostic cycle.(which is what you were trying to do) pls reread your manual there are times during that sequence that some buttons have to be pushed at the same time and within a certain amount of time..possible that your machine also has a bad timer which would give you a buzzing noise..if thats the case I would recommend replacing the cpu or control board..or the machin all together..The Kenmore Ultra Wash Quiet Guard name is sears but whirpool has the contract to produce all "kenmore products.hope that helps.
This buzzing sound can be from a couple things. A lose a lose kick/access panel when the motor and pump is in operation can cause a slight vibrating noise. Try tightening securing the dishwasher and kick/access panel.
Second, (most likely) their can be an obstruction or debris in the water pump. You may see a plastic grid (4" x 6"; filter like) in the right rear of your dishwasher; Try removing the grid (1 or 2 screws 1/4"/cross tip), then use a dry-vac to remove any debris. *
Safety: As a beginning, please remember to perform the repairs with the power-off and ensure you have water in the dishwasher before restarting the water pump cycle (the water-pump can become damaged while dry-spinning and water enters the pump suddenly)
I had the same problem with by Kemore Ultrawash after two years. The motor bearing went bad because the seal went out and dish water got to the bearing. If you are handy, this motor comes out after taking the dishwasher out. I was surprised how easily the motor came apart from the dishwasher, a good design. The motor has three screws that holds it together, I took them out and took the motor apart. I took the old beaing off the shaft with a grinder, careful not to groove the motor shaft. I did, but just put some high temp silicone caulk in the groove before I put the new bearing on the shaft. I bought a new bearing on the internet, it is a 22mm x 8mm x 7mm. I bought one that went in a small engine, a quality one. I placed it on the shaft, put the motor back together and put the dishwasher back together. It has run quiet and great for many weeks now. I expect the dishwasher may last many years now, because the bearing I took out was a cheap aftermarket one, and the new one is vastly superior in quality.

When it is off, reach down around the base of the spray assy and run your fingers around the entire circular base where junk can get caught. I've found broken glass and plastic utensils. Why do some of us wash disposable utensils? Huh? You may find something like a piece of plastic, glass, or the like that is making the noise. Be careful not to cut yourself.
If this buzzying sound is not coming from the tub, and is actually below the tub and in front right side, it is most likely the electrical relay switch ( which can make that sound when it is straining or failing).
