Dell Inspiron 8500 won't shut down, on/off button doesn't repond

Hold the power button untill the pc shuts down.

I assume HANSPREE SV32AMUB is an external monitor and you want to watch what is on your laptop PC transferred to your TV. If this is the case Toggle the Fn key on your laptop.

EXPLAIN IN DETAIL WHAT YOU HAVE AND WHAT YOU WON'T TO DO. I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED

LAPTOP OR NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS HAVE A KEY ON THE KEYBOARD IN THE LOWER LEFT SIDE THAT HAS A "Fn" MARKED ON IT, SHOULD BE BY THE CTRL KEY. PRESS THIS KEY ALONG WITH AN "F"KEY, NORMALY F5, ( HAS 2-BOXES WITH A DIVIDER LINE), WILL CAUSE YOUR SCREEN TO GO BLANK AS IT IS NOW SENDING THE VIDEO TO AN EXTERNAL MONITOR. PRESSING THE 2-KEYS AGAIN WILL APPLYTHE VIDEO TO BOTH MONITORS, THEN PRESSING BOTH AGAIN WILL RETURN IT TO YOUR LATOP ONLY.

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds. That will hard-shut the PC. Once that is done, fire it back up, and try again. Somethimes, windows will act goofy shutting down. Especially Vista when it is left on too long without shutting it down.

Try connecting an external monitor to the 15 pin VGA (Video Graphics Adapter)and see if you still get a white display. You may have to hold down the function key next to the space bar and depress the key with a picture of a monitor on it to send the video signal to the monitor.
If you still get a white display on external monitor then you have a problem with the laptop's video card.
If the display on the external monitor is fine then you have a problem with the laptop's LCD display panel or I/O cable and they need to be replaced.

Hi Friend, In this case I would recommenrd you to please try and connect any external monitor to the system to check if you have the same issue in the external one as well..
If you got the same lines on the external one as well, it indicates that we can try updating the video drivers of the system

Please make sure to select the Operating system first you are using on the system and after that the last option you will see the Video drivers.
If the external one is working fine, it indicates that the issue is with the laptop screen itself and needs to be repaired or replaced.

Try an external monitor, if still nothing, power down, remove battery / /tap start button to de energise system / remove / replace ram stick (s).

If stil no go may me mobo / faulty ram(assuming there is NO posting beep) / faulty CPU.

If ext monitor works then prob with monitor itself.

Get moniotr wiring / ribbon plugs checked.

turn off comp then press "D" and power button to perform built in self test. connect external monitor hten press "Fn" and "F8" to toggle video from LCD to external monitor and vice versa.

run system restore if fails

update the BIOS if fails

reinstall the dell quickset

with the external monitor attached press <FN><F8> to toggle between internal and external display. if still nothing then it sounds like the video card.
