I took a home pregnancy test and was really disappointed to see that it was negative but then when I checked again after 20 minutes, I think I saw a very faint line appear in the result window. What does that mean?

I'm sorry to say that if the result was negative after the allotted time, it will not have turned into a positive result 20 minutes later. What you are probably seeing is some kind of staining or blotch on the paper. If you are still unsure whether you are pregnant or not, best to wait 36 hours and repeat the test with a new one.

Are there different types of pregnancy tests?

Yes there are two
different types of pregnancy tests. One is a blood test for the hormone HCG
which you would have to do through your doctor. The other is a urine test which
also detects HCG and can be done through your doctor or using a home pregnancy
kit.

I just took a home pregnancy test and it was positive! Now what am I supposed to do?

Try not to feel overwhelmed at seeing a positive pregnancy result. Whether you are happy or concerned, it's really natural to have many conflicting emotions. The best thing to do is to make an appointment with your physician who will probably do a blood test to confirm the pregnancy and then discuss with you what the next steps are.

How reliable are home pregnancy tests? I got a negative result but I keep thinking it might just have been a bad test.

Don't worry - if you got a negative result, the chances are that you are not pregnant. Home pregnancy tests are about 97%-98% reliable. But if you are still really worried, go and see your doctor.

I did a home pregnancy test and it was negative but I still didnt get my period and am feeling really sick. What does it mean?

Home pregnancy tests are not always 100% reliable and sometimes a woman can get a negative result even though she is pregnant. I would try another test and if that's still negative and your symptoms continue, go to your family doctor.

I took a pregnancy test and it was negative but then when I went back to it 5 minutes later I saw a faint blue line. What does it mean?

It's hard to tell you exactly what that means as it could be that you are pregnant but your HCG levels were too low to trigger the line within the time frame but it could also just be a fault in the test. I would wait a couple of days and then try another one.

Is it worth buying a home pregnancy test? How do they work?

Home pregnancy tests are actually quite reliable. They work by detecting
the hormone HCG which is found in both urine and blood. If you have a lab blood
test, it will probably detect pregnancy earlier than a home urine test.

How long after ovulation do you need to wait before taking a pregnancy test?

That really varies. Some people could get a result on a home pregnancy test within 10-14 days after ovulation but most people need to wait until the first day of a missed period.

I have very tight pain across my lower abdimon. I have also not had mt perriod for 2 months. I have done 2 pregnancy tests and they have come back negative. Could there be other issues.

For some women home pregnancy test kits do not work. It would be best to visit a doctor and have a blood hCG, pregnancy, test done. There is a danger of ectopic, outside the womb, pregnancy which could cause the pain. It could be something as simple as an infection that's causing your problem but you need to visit a doctor and get it sorted out.
