Online pregnancy tests are sites that offer a software where you input all your data such as physical health parameters etc and they then calculate the likelihood of you being pregnant. Whilst they may be able to predict a pregnancy, there is no substitute for a HCG hormone detection test either via a home pregnancy test or at the doctor.

Is it ok to use an out of date pregnancy test? Mine went out of date 2 months ago.

Pregnancy tests contain chemicals that interact with the HCG chemical that they are testing for. If the pregnancy test is out of date, it might affect the accuracy of the results. You should dispose of it and buy a new one.

Are there different types of pregnancy tests?

Yes there are two
different types of pregnancy tests. One is a blood test for the hormone HCG
which you would have to do through your doctor. The other is a urine test which
also detects HCG and can be done through your doctor or using a home pregnancy
kit.

Are there certain brands of pregnancy tests that are more accurate than others?

There are certain brands of home pregnancy tests that can detect the HCG hormone which is present in pregnancy at very low levels. If it's listed on the packet, try and buy a brand that says it can detect from 20mIU/ml. Some tests are more sensitive to early pregnancies than others, but don't worry, most pregnancy tests are reliable and accurate up to between 97% and 98%.

Do pregnancy tests check for any abnormalities?

No, basic pregnancy tests simply check whether you are pregnant or not. They don't give any other information about the fetus. For this you need to do scans and more detailed testing through your doctor.

How do I read the result of my pregnancy test? I am getting so stressed about it that I just cant understand the instructions.

Not all pregnancy tests are the same but there are usually two ways of getting a positive result:

1) Some tests just show a clear vertical line in the control window and if you are pregnant you will also get a clear vertical line in the result window.

2) Some tests show a vertical line in the control window and a "-" sign in the result window if you are not pregnant and a "+" sign in the result window if you are.

All pregnancy tests come with instructions and usually they have pictures explaining the results. You can probably hold your pregnancy test alongside the leaflet if you are confused and it should clarify the result for you.

How long do you have to wait for a home pregnancy test to give a result?

Most home

contact with the urine flow.

Can I take a pregnancy test before I have even missed my period?

You can buy
pregnancy tests that are super sensitive and claim to detect pregnancy within 7
days of fertilization but you are more likely to get an accurate result if you
wait longer. Once you have missed your period, you can take a pregnancy test
and it will be easier to detect HCG levels in your urine if you are actually
pregnant.

Is it worth buying a home pregnancy test? How do they work?

Home pregnancy tests are actually quite reliable. They work by detecting
the hormone HCG which is found in both urine and blood. If you have a lab blood
test, it will probably detect pregnancy earlier than a home urine test.

How long after ovulation do you need to wait before taking a pregnancy test?

That really varies. Some people could get a result on a home pregnancy test within 10-14 days after ovulation but most people need to wait until the first day of a missed period.
