Hobart CHF 40 dishwasher water coming back into container and flooding

The container (I think its the detergent) overfills and causes flooding all over the floor. When I open the machine at the bottom front I can see one pump ( I assume that is the detergent pump) Cannot find the rinse aid pump but I think my problem is from the detergent side overfilling. If someone could walk me through this step by step as to the location of the rinse aid pump so i can check both, as well as what could cause this and how to rectify, I would be so very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Hi all and thanks for your comments, I think I need to clarify what is happening. Firstly my machine has 2 tubes coming out of it, each one needs to be placed into an external container of a) detergent chemical and b) rinse aide. I put them directly into a 2x 5LTR bottles of each fluid which I bought. Not sure if they were the right way around though (which may or may not be a problem within itself?) I had a guy come round and take a look who said immediately that the small plastic pipe inside the detergent pump was the cause and needed replacing. Someone else said it is the detergent pump itself.(Ching Ching!) So whilst washing during the day, suddenly the floor would be flooded and one of the detergent bottles was overfull with water which had come back from inside the machine. Another guy said to insert a one-way valve onto the offending tube which would stop the water coming back into the bottle. I am confused, frustrated and broke! I have taken the cheapest option by fitting the one-way valve onto the tube and hoping for the best, however the dishes are still greasy and not cleaning well so wondering what's going on. i will go and buy new rinse aid tomorrow and see if that helps but just wondered if anyone had come across this problem before and had a clear anser as to the machine pouring water back out into the detergent (or rinse aid) external bottle and what could be the cause. That's basically it I hope it's a bit clearer now and may give any more clues to someone who may have encountered this before. Thank you very much for your comments thus far.

You don't need to use regular dish detergent. Use dish washer detergent. Check seal around door also.

SOURCE: Indesit dishwasher overfilling

There are two ways that dishwashers generally fill. One is a float inside the tub, the second is a tube which fills with water, loops and goes to a pressure switch below the machine. That switch is usually about 1.5 inches in diameter, two wires and a small hose going to it. The float witch is found below the float in the motor area. With the float, sometimes they jam with too much old detergent or food goo. Clean out. Both can have the switch weld closed. Change the switch in either case. Since the unit is not filling with the power off, I'm going to guess the water solenoid is okay.

SOURCE: Overfill Protection tripped on ASKO D3112 dishwasher

remove the front toe kick. you should have 6 torx screws. four in the top 2 in the front. your float switch will be in the front center .the float is a piece of styrofoam - the float many times is what you find jammed up making the unit believe it has water in the base

SOURCE: put rinse liquid detergent in dishwasher rinse aid compartment.

I did the same thing with my Maytag dishwasher, several times actually, before realizing I was putting blue dish soap in the rinse aid compartment which then wouldn't empty. Then my Maytag started making ominous noises during the rinse cycle (appliance guy said it was "cavitation" noise).

Appliance guy wanted to replace the whole detergent/rinse aid compartment but since he told me the noise was probably caused by the dish soap stuck in the rinse aid compartment, I decided to try to get rid of it first. Here is the method that worked for me; it took most of a day but saved me parts & labor:

1. Get some white vinegar--I used nearly a quart.
2. Fill the rinse aid compartment to brim with the vinegar (overfill) but don't put cap on
3. Raise the dishwasher door slowly until the vinegar drains into the lower part of the chamber (at least this is how my Maytag worked)
4. Agitate the contents as best you can by rapidly shaking the dishwasher door up & down.
5. I also used a small plastic medicine dropper jammed into small openings on each side of the rinse aid compartment to agitate the vinegar by squeezing air into them.
6. Drain the compartment by closing the dishwasher door (move it to full vertical)--vinegar will drain into the bottom of the dishwasher.
7. Repeat above steps a couple times, then fill again w/vinegar, put the cap on and let it stand for awhile. Then drain and repeat the whole routine several times.
8. Blue-colored vinegar will come out which is a good sign (or whatever color your dish soap was).
9. After awhile, I started pouring generous amts of very hot tap water thru the rinse aid compartment, alternating with white vinegar. (No reason you can't use hot vinegar also.)
10. Eventually, all the blue stuff came out & the see-thru levels of the rinse aid compartment were completely clear/empty.
11. Run the dishwasher (I decided to not put any rinse aid in). I got some overfoaming (from the washed out soap) the first time I ran it which I probably could have remedied by adding more vinegar & possibly salt, but the noises were gone!
I just ran the cleaned out dishwasher a 2nd time & it was back to its quiet self with no overfoaming.

Takes some patience but hey, beats a big repair bill!!

SOURCE: Dishwasher not pumping water

Hi, I have an ASKO 1606 and it stopped turning on. This happened after the sink drain got blocked. All that would happen when switched on was the sound of the pump trying to pump water out. I opened up the panel on the back and found the tray inside full of water. As I started scooping the water out I heard what sounded like a switch clicking on and off. I think there must be a safety float switch or something. Once the water in the tray was cleared everything worked fine again. No more hand washing dishes!! WOOHOO

SOURCE: Water flooding onto floor when running.

The most common cause of this is a loose clamp on the pump discharge hose. It could also be a cracked hose, the hose came off (again, loose clamp). Check both ends - where the hose connects to the dishwasher AND where it connects to the sink drain.

Another possible cause is a bad pump seal, although this is less common, and usually open happens when the dishwasher is pretty old.

Our fisher and paykel dishdrawer won't wash. It comes up with F1 and flashing light on control panel.

the dynamo dishwashing stuff has caused foaming which reached the base of the dishdrawer unit causing the flood switch to trip. This gives F1 error.
Not sure how much foaming has occured.

Best to turn off power and take power cable out from socket. then empty the drawer using towels. pull out the bottom drawer and wait a day or so to let the foam disappear from the bottom of dishwasher (under the bottom drawer). Connect the power and see if F1 had gone. If not, you need more work. Post a comment based on the above suggestion and I will guide you further if required. Always use Finish dishwasher power only (recommended quantity) as the drawers are small and don't need much detergent.

How to you fix the fi code problem tried unplugging and turning water supply off problem reoccurs after applying power will not continue any cycle

Hi
Error F1 on your fisher & paykel means an overfill condition. One of the most common causes for an overfill fault is that the dishwasher cannot pump out the dirty water due to a plugged drain hose. Check the drain hose if it is clogged. Now remove the bottom drawer from the unit to inspect the flood switch. Remove the wire harness cover on the underside of the drawer. With the bottom cover off, unclip the wire harness, fill hose, and drain hose. Then unclip the linkage at the back of the drawer and lift the drawer off the slider arms. Now' you'll be able to look at the flood switch. Note the positions of the wires on the flood switch and remove them. Then unclip the switch housing from the base panel. The switch housing contains one switch for each drawer. The switches are wired normally closed (NC) and each switch has three spade connections, so it's important to note where the wires went. Now clean the contacts and let it dry. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.
