Built in Microphone doesn't work in AIM, Windows Live Messanger

I recently purchased a Gateway home computer with Windows Vista and then bought a Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX webcam for it. When I do the tests for audio within the Logitech software, I see the mic working fine, and when I record a video, playback of video and AUDIO is fine, but when I open AIM, or Window Live Messenger, or Skype, the built in microphone does work in these "Video Call" programs. The party on the other end does not hear audio from my computer. Please help I have a problem with my webcam. It's got a built in mic but for some reason it won't work. I try to adjust it or calibrate it but it keeps telling me that it can't pick up any voices even if i shout. Please help! i really want to talk to other people on my video calls on MSN. I also tried the audio and video setups there but it's still the same problem.

My microphone works fine with recording etc, it's just making audio calls on MSN :(

Check the camera settings are not too high 320x480 or similair should be enough. Have you installed Windows Messenger live, the new MSN and tried it with that? Normal 0 Normal 0 Did you install the software with the camera connected to the computer? Disconnect the camera from the USB port and reinstall the software. When the program asks you to connect the camera, do so, and it should work. Hope this is of some help. Bud

Below is info for setting up Audio & Video to chat on line after you install , either Skype or a messenger program.

Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
Then click on the Video Settings.
The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.

NOTE: You audio and video shoud work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

You have to be on the same Skype or Messenger that he is on to chat and see each other. Doesn't matter if he has a Mac and you have a PC. Read the instructions below.

Computer Does Not Detect Headset Microphone

Sound and Recording jacks stop working on the DV6000 series due to the ribbon cable running under the power button. when the power button is pushed it bends the flex cable and over time it breaks the connection rendering the front jacks useless you can buy a new upper button panel for about 20 dollars on ebay

Go to Control Panel and Click on Sounds, Click on Audio, then Click on the Microphone. Then Click on the drop down and select Camera Microphone or Headset.
Click OK and it should work.
