Shuts off in the upright position

Check the instruction book. Some machines shut off when handle is locked in upright position.

Hi there! Some vacuums do not come with the feature that automatically shuts the brushes off when in the upright position.. If your unit is like this, be sure to put the vacuum on the highest setting when using the hose. Also, because the brush-roll continues to spin, avoid tipping cleaner or setting it on furniture, fringed area rugs, or carpeted stairs during tool use. Hope this was helpful!

The roller brush will turn as long as the sweeper motor is running no matter what brand you have. Turn it off as you return it to the upright position.

there will be a linkage that as come loose and not operating the limit switch to turn it off, try looking at 23. Idler Clamp Assembly on the link below.

When you stand your DC17 upright, the brushbar motor is designed to shut off. However, the suction motor should continue to run until you turn it off with the red on/off switch. with cleaner plugged in and turned on, push the little reset button on the side of the lower base of vac. Remember that the brush will not turn in the upright position. release your handle and you should be in business. hope this helps. please let us know. thanks renevacdoc

make sure there is not a lever to move in order to stop the brushes/agitator...
if the belt makes contact with the end of the shaft the brushes will rotate...
tighten all of course/and take the panel of to check behind the bag to make sure all is tight. (fasteners)
take off the face plate to make sure that the adjustment for the floor tools is not broke and belt is ok.

sounds like one of the filters is either damaged IE a hole or tear or is not seated correctly
