My email address is not being recognised

All you have to do is add them to your accounts section

It means `at` - ie. Location ....as in email address: [email protected], meet me @ 3:00 etc.

when you signed up to gmail, you used an alternate email address in case you forgot your user name or password. go to gmail and enter your alternarte email address and they will send you a link to rest the password.

Yes. Nothing is changing about Google's webmail service except the name. If you choose not to change your address to @gmail.com, you'll still be able to sign in with your @googlemail.com address.

Check for a typo in the SMTP server address. You might also try smtp.googlemail.com instead (port 465 SSL). I've seen both used.

I'm a little confused. Do you mean your Mail program that comes with your OS is not working? and you've changed your email address with Gmail?

If this is the case, you need to change the email address in "preferences." Open your mail program, click "Mail" in the top bar, then select "Preferences" in the menu. A box will pop up. Change the email address in accounts. You'll need to type the entire address ([email protected]) If your password has changed, change that too. Make sure the incoming (pop.gmail.com) and outgoing servers (smtp.gmail.com) are set for Gmail. If this is not your problem, please clarify.

Have a look at Gmail (or Googlemail in the UK) and sign up there. It is different from most other email systems, but very good. (and free)
