Only has about 30 hours on it, full of gas and oil. Checked plug disconnected low oil sensor wire and nothing. All I can figure is bad Carburetor Assy....but have no idea where to find this part. Called number on manual and the phone just rings...Any suggestions or know where I can order this part.

I had the same problem with this generator. I tried all of the usual suspects: fuel level; fuel valve; oil level; air clearner, spark pluge etc. The problem is a "tilt" saftey shutoff --I was using the generator on a pea gravel patio and it settled about 2" out of level... The tilt switch is not mentioned in the manual and it apparently does not reset itself once the generator is leveled.
To reset the switch, ensure that the generator is on level and stable ground, the find yellow wire that goes from a switch on the front side of the engine crankcase to the bundled wiring harness behind the panel. Disconnect the yellow wire at the in-line quick-connect coupler, which can be found by following the yellow wire from the switch on the crankcase toward the wiring harness. Once disconnected, start the generator as normal. The engine should start right up. Let the engine run for a minute, then kill the engine and reconnect the yellow tilt-switch wire and try to restart. I had to go through the disconnect-start-reconnect process twice before it reset, so if it wont restart after you reconnect the wire, disconnect it agian and let the engine run a few more minutes.

The tilt safety shutoff was the problem for me. I had tried everything else: new spark plug, new gas, topped off the oil, air cleaner. I even squirted some gas directly into the cylinder - nothing. Disconnected the yellow wire and it started after only a couple more pulls. You'd think something that important would be in the manual!

My GG5500 sat over the summer and had been used after it was purchased during poer outage, so I knew it worked once. I performed the maintenance when not using for extended period of time. I was getting it ready for use this winter and when I pulled the rope it woulod backfire every couple of pulls, but not on regular intervals. I changed the sparkplug and the gas just for extra measures, but it still would not start and still backfired only. I have a car mechanic buddy that went straight to the cylinder head cover and removed it. He loosened one of the rocker arm bolts reassembled and it fired right up. He made another minor adjustment to the rocker arm bolt and everything was set. This is probably not the problem you are/were having, but I wanted to mention it just in case this happens to anyone in the future.
When you look at the generator where all the switches and guages are there is a sheetmetal cover plate remove this plate and under it is all the wiring andcapacitors, there are two capacitors one on the far left and one on the far right. I think the far left capacitor is part of the ignition the one on the right is how the generator makes electricity, Check the capacitor to see if it is good

You don't say if you've confirmed that you have spark. Try this:
Remove the air cleaner, make sure the choke is open.
Spray a bit of either carb cleaner, ether, or brake cleaner into the intake.
Make sure the switch is on and pull the rope, If you've got a bad carb you'll hear some sort of attempt to start when the spark plug ignites the stuff you sprayed in, otherwise you've got ignition problems.

If the tilt switch solution doesn't help (and I hope it does!), there are carbs available for this engine. First, however, try directly priming the engine with gasoline. (Remove the spark plug and use something to get a small amount of fuel into the cylinder.) Replace spark plug and try to start. If it fires and runs only a couple of seconds, it's burning the gas that you put in the cylinder and that's all. None is coming in through the carb. If it doesn't start, it's more likely an electrical problem (which could be a sensor grounding the system, as with a tilt switch would do).
If you need a carb, run a Google search on "UST GG500 carb" and you'll find a place that sells them for $24.

Mine did the same, exact thing. I used it once and would not start. For whatever reason, the thing has been working fine for 4 years now - but I have to pop the plastic cover off the carb area and prime the thing (I use a little syringe to shoot gas in horizontally) every time it needs to be started (unless it's hot). if I don't prime it, it will not start - period. But it's been very reliable, otherwise.

Tried placing spark plug with wire onto a screwdriver, it sparked. Tried fule in spark plug hole. It went ? 10 seconds. Wont stay running. Dont have a hard copy manual. An didnt know of yellow wire, so I will try that before I decide to take it to a shop. Got it second, first guy ran it one day for power, couldnt pull the cord sold it to me an an ive tried most things I could think of myself. Only got 15 seconds once few months back. Ive struggled, an it has to be minor. Its hardly ever ran an not been full of fuel going bad, everything seems in order. Attempt to get back to report on yellow wire later thanks again

my gg5500 will not start after sitting all summer. I put new gas in it, tried the tilt switch suggestion, sprayed starter fluid in the carb, checked the spark with plug out to find a very weak looking spark any ideas on the weak spark?
