SOURCE: I installed windows 7 and now my function keys don't work

You need to install the drivers, windows does not recognize these additional buttons until the proper drivers are loaded. Depending on manufacturer windows 7 drivers may or may not be available. Microsoft did something smart with windows 7 by allowing you to use windows vista drivers in windows 7. So if there are no win 7 drivers just download and install the vista drivers. Good luck!

Have a Sony Vaio VGN-C21S laptop. I upgraded it from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate. Now, my AV Mode and other shortcut buttons for volume, camera, etc. are not working. What driver should I download...

Perform a Windows update first to see if there are updates to correct the drivers. Then if any drivers are still missing, go to the Sony website and locate the Windows 7 drivers for your computer model.

What are the buttons meant for in the sony vaio vgn-fj180p above the keyboard S1 and S2

S1 and S2 buttons are called special Function keys.
By default, the S1 button turns the Volume On or Off and the S2 button toggles the display between the LCD and the external devices. You can also change these buttons assignments on the window for changing the S button assignments. To display this window, press and hold either button or launch and navigate through VAIO Central (Start, All Programs, VAIO Central).

Good Luck!!!!

My Dell Studio One 1909 soft touch eject button doesnt work since my upgrade to Windows 7.

Try downloading the ODD Eject Button Software from dell:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WLH&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=STUDIO1909&hidos=BIOSA&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False

Be sure you are on Vista 32bit not Windows 7(even though you are running windows 7, vista drivers should work under windows 7).

It is located under "Input Device Drivers"

Give that a shot.

I have a problem with keyboard volume control

These instructions are for Windows XP:

  • The volume button, brightness key, and disc eject button on some computers will not work if the HotKey Utility application is not running.
  • The Magnify button and the Fn keys will not function properly before the operating system has finished starting.
  • The setting may not be saved if the ESC key is used to close the Fn display. Press the ENTER key or allow the Fn display to close automatically to save the setting.
  1. Click the Start button, then click Run .
  2. In the Run window, next to Open , type MSCONFIG .
  3. Press the ENTER key.
  4. In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
  5. On the Startup tab, under Startup Item , ensure that there is a check in the HKserv checkbox. NOTE: If HKserv is missing, reinstall the HotKey Utility application and the Sony Utilities Library.
  6. Click the OK button.
  7. In the System Configuration box, click the restart button.
