In the Transit connect, they have plug in connections to the dial, these often vibrate loose, its a case of taking the clock out and pushing the plugs back in!!
if everything is working and there is no engine lights on then it may just be the connection on the dash to the wiring or the rev counter has failed and just needs replacing, its usually the connections that go discoloured and loses connection and they just need a clean with some enrycloth. or switch cleaner.
Often the click which can be heard when the A.C. kicks in is the clutch on the A.C. compressor. Be sure that it isn't just this sound which you are hearing. Also check the operation of the idle control valve which is supposed to raise the engine revs to compensate for heavy power drain. If this isn't working correctly, then this would explain the lights dimming under low revs.
My 04 Ford Focus the battery light keeps coming on & going off, have fitted a new alternator belt but it didn't solve the problem. The battery connections are good. Also the rev counter, speedo & mileage clock keep going haywire when the battery light is on. Do you think it is the alternator? Or is it some other common problem?
the tacho runs off the altenator on the diesel variant ,but runs from the ECU on the petrol model look at one thats fitted as original and see hows its wired
check the accelarator cable isnt stretched (rev the car from the peddle, then from under the hood and listen for any rev differences) although its just been serviced also check that its had a replacement air filter. this could be restricting air.
Sounds like an accelerator cable that is getting stuck in its sheath or linkage under the hood the is sticking.
Try pulling up the accelerator pedal when the engine is racing; if it drops down to normal idle, then the above is a good place to start.
