Desperately need ethernet driver for xp

why post lacking such key facts.
NO PC sated, just a nebuluas complaq.
no OS stated, just linux something
why not ask on YOUR linux forum.
try Ubuntu? yet?
best is to match PC old to Linux old.
but be impossible for me to guess what PC you own.

compaq presario 700 has got 3-4 different models so go to this website www.tinyurl.com/y8h2y8m and select the model you have then download the network drivers and insatll them, it will also have all the other drivers for your computer .

There are a few steps to solve your problem but it's not complicated. First go here: http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html . Download and install on your old pc. The program is called Unknown Device Identifier. Once you run the program on your old pc, it will tell you what ethernet card you have on the machine. Then go to your laptop and do a search for the driver for that hardware. Download the driver to a flashdrive, floppy, or cd (any portable media) and place it in your old machine. Then go to your device manager (right click on MY Computer, go to properties, click on hardware, click on device manager). You will find a yellow exclamation point on the network card. Double click on it and you will have an option to update driver. Click on that and select the option to seach for driver. Select the drive you have the driver on, (cd,floppy,flash drive) Once it finds and installs your ethernet card, you should be able to access the internet on you old machine. Run windows update (may take several times). Windows update will locate all of your drivers and install them. Good luck and hang in there! : )

If you have a SATA hard drive your windows disk needs SATA drivers on it.

then copy windows CD to hard drive and use "Nlite" to install driverpack into it then burn windows to new CD and try again.

And just to add that your system specs are really old and you should think about upgrading. 128 mb ram upgradable to 2 gigs.

Integrated 4x agp graphics...you should be able to install a new agp graphics card.

Or you should buy a new computer if you dont know how to build your own which can be tricky and expensive if you cant reuse many parts.
