Hey,

If you look at this page you can see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_shader#Hardware_Compatability

PS version (pixel shader version supported / compatible)
so that would be for shader 3 requirement

Ati Radeon x1300 to x1950 cards support it Also!
Nvidia Geforce 6 and newer.

The Radeon hd 3xxx and newer support version 4 (everything 1 2 3 4)

well you can see on the list.

If you want a cheap card with just shader 3 support

get ati radeon x1900 or better
or Nvidia 8 series, nvidia 8600 GT for example.

Do you need a place to buy them from?

in the USA - http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=38&name=Video-Cards-Video-Devices

for example, this one is cheap
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814140104

But it requires a PCI-E slot on the computer. Looking at your computer you have a agp slot, I think its time to buy a new computer for the newer games.

Intel g41 express chipest not compatible

Sounds like your computer has an integrated video card and the game is looking for an extended graphics card. This type of card plugs into the motherboard via the AGP, PCI, or PCIE slots. Depending on the type of video card and computer, you may need to upgrade the power supply when you put the card in. If this is a laptop there is no good way to upgrade the video card.

Hope this was helpful

I have a Toshiba L355D-S7825. I run Windows 7 on it. I want to update my graphics card to Shader 3. Will my computer support this? Is it motherboard compatible? What's a good card with this...

The shader 3 mode is a inbuilt option that is designed within the graphic cards (i.e. intergrated or slotted cards). This function usually use for high graphics gaming for PCs. You cannot upgrade the Graphic card to get this Shader 3 options for your Laptop. The best options you can do is to update the drivers & DirectX to the latest for your laptop "ATI Radeon™ 3100 Graphics" intergrated graphic card.

Hope it helps.

I install juiced 2 but they told me about SHADER 3 GRAPHICS CARD

All latest PC games requires shader model 3 graphics card. Actually juiced 2 is a high graphic oriented game requiring shader model 3. So, you must upgrade the video memory by adding a latest graphics card with shader model 3.Graphic card like,
Nvidia 6600 and higher has shader model 3.0 ATI x1xxx or higher has shader model 3.0 some X800 were also shader model 3.0.
Before you buy any new graphic card you need to discover which card your motherboard supports.
Good luck!!!

I just purchased need for speed hott pursuit from EA games n it doesnt work on my laptop, a message shows that system require a "shader model 3 " is this model compactible with this game or not?

If you get this message it means the video card in the laptop is not compatible with the game, probably because it is too old. A shader is a set of software instructions used to calculate rendering effects on graphics hardware. Most modern graphics hardware is compatible with shader model 3.

Cannot play FIFA09

Uh oh. It looks like you're out of luck.

FIFA 09 PC Requirement (minimum):
Graphics: 6600 Nvidia graphics card or ATI equivalent with support for Pixel Shader 3
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c"

Nvidia 6600 came out at 2004 and it supports DirectX 9.0C (Shader 3 came with 9.0C)
ATI Radeon 9200 came out at 2003 and only support DirectX 8.1 (which support shader 1.2 - 1.4)

Nope, Radeon 9200 will not support Shader 3 (neither will it support 2.0).

Time for a new video card maybe?

I hope this answers your question.

I got a Geforce FX 5500! i want to know... ''Shader 3''?

Don't think you can with that video card.

  1. Operating system: Windows XP/ Vista
  2. Processor: Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon X2
  3. Memory: 1GB RAM (2GB for Vista)
  4. Free disk space: 10GB
  5. Video card: Shader Model 3.0 and 256MB RAM (nVidia GeForce 6800 GT/ATI Radeon X1600)
  6. Sound card: DirectX 9.0c compatible
The Geforce 5500 does not support Shader Model 3.0
You would have to get atleast a Geforce 6 Series for that Shader model.

Need video card

Hi there,

The EA website says the minimum requirements are:

  • Video: DirectX 9.0c compatible video card with 128 MB or more memory, Pixel Shader 3.0 support, and one of these chipsets is required:
    • ATI Radeon X1300 Pro or greater
    • NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT or greater
      • Note: NVIDIA 6800XT/LE, 7100GS, 7200GS/LE, 7300 GS/GT are not supported
    • Note: NVIDIA SLI and ATI Crossfire modes are NOT supported, and may have a negative effect on gameplay. In addition, ifyou have an NVIDIA SLI or ATI Crossfire setup, we recommend you do notuse the 'Force Split Frame Rendering' option. This option has beenshown to have a negative effect on performance.
Chances are your card doesn't support pixel shader 3.0. So either upgrade the card to the NVidia 6600 or you can use an emulator like this:
http://www.transgaming.com/products/swiftshader/
or
http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/tools/3d_analyze/index.php

But for all the fuss of trying you'll still be better of getting one of the latest graphics cards compatible with pixel shader 3 or higher. Although, do bare in mind that you will need to find a graphics card compatible with your motherboard. This is why many people are now opting to use consoles for gaming to avoid all these 'unknown' requirements.
All the best in your endeavours.
