I have a Panasonic KX-TG 5632 phone. It has caller ID and select ringtones. The phone will ring but caller ID and special ringtones do not work. When you answer the phone no one is there (or you are not connected to the caller). Also, there is no dial tone when you dial a number. Could it be the battery? All the lights are lit.

Hi trinigirl, You should not have to do anything to make the caller id information come through. There is no programming to perform for the regular caller id identification on your display after the second ring (it takes at least one ring cycle for the digital information to pass through). Your model also has the talking caller id function, which will announce in English the callers name or a custom name you can prepare in the phone book of handset number 1. With all that said, you are not getting caller id showing after the second ring, then your phone is bad (which is pretty rare for this symptom), or your phone line still does not have caller id activated. To troubleshoot your problem you need another phone line with working caller id and/or a different phone that is known good to pass caller id. That way you can interchange the phones/lines to see if it is your line or your phone. My guess it is your line somehow, though I have fixed phones that won't pass caller id, but rarely. If it is your phone, try rebooting it, thats about all you can do short of sending it in for repair. Let me know how it goes. CG

Make sure the phone is pluggd into the wall properly. If so and no dial tone is detectable make sure you installed the batterys on the handsets correctly and that they are fully charged. If you have a friendly neighbor with a working phone line plug youre phone into their line and if it does not work and you followed my previous instructions seek a repair center in youre area that honors panasonic warranties. If the phone is pluggd in at the neighbors house and it works use it to call the phone company.

US phones use Bellcore FSK caller id. India uses DTMF caller id. Buy a DTMF- FSK converter at a telecom shop.

IT IS DUE TO NETWORK FAILURE OF THAT LINE
SOURCE: How do you turn on caller ID on a Panasonic KX TGA181AL
Is your phone operated off a panasonic system? is so you need a caller id card. if not then you would need to inform your phone service provider that you need caller id. if you have caller id and you do have the caller id card you would need to get a hold of a panasonic tech who could turn on your c.id as long as it is being provided from your phone service and the card is installed.
This feature lets you know who is calling
without looking at the display.
To use this feature, you must:
- subscribe to a Caller ID service of
your service provider/telephone
company.
- turn this feature on (page 24).
When caller information is received, the
handsets and base unit announce the
caller's name or phone number received
from your service provider/telephone
company following every ring.
The unit announces in English only.
L Name pronunciation may vary. This
feature may not pronounce all names
correctly.
L Caller ID service has a limit of how
many characters can be displayed. If
the caller's name is too long, the
handset may not be able to display or
announce the entire name.
L The announcement is heard at the
same level as the ringer volume (page
16, 23).
L If you turn on the answering system
and set the number of rings "2
rings" (page 36), the unit does not
announce the caller information. If
"Toll saver" is selected and there
is a new message, the unit does not
announce the caller information.
