Powerbook g4 will not turn on

My mac powerbook g4 will not turn on, no sound comes from the computer (fans and what not) when I press the power button, when its plugged in there is a green light around the power adapter port, and when I press the little button on the battery no little lights light up on the battery. I was thinking that my battery is old and wont hold a charge anymore, but the computer will not even turn on even when plugged in.

Reset button on a powerbook g4

The Powerbook G4 power button functions like a reset button if you hold the power button in for a few seconds until the computer powers down.
  1. Hold the power button in for a few seconds (until you see the screen turn off/go black and hear the fans & hard drive stop spinning).
  2. Press the power button again to turn your computer on.
  3. If you have more trouble, you may need to boot in Safe Mode or "perform a Safe Boot":
Press and hold down the "Shift" key immediately after you hear the start-up tone. Release the "Shift" key when the gray Apple icon appears on the screen.

It's called a Power Management Unit (PMU) Reset. Here are Apple's steps:
  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
  3. Wait 5 seconds.
  4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

Turn on my powerbook G4 but there isn't a chime and nothing comes on the lcd screen

If there's no chime, your problem could be anything from a dead battery or bad AC adapter to a dead logic board.
Does the tip of the adapter on your AC connector light up? If not, that's a problem.
When you push the button on the battery, do you get at least two glowing LCDs? If not, that's a problem.
Otherwise, try the following: remove the battery and the AC jack to make sure the machine is off. Now insert the AC jack, and reset the power management unit by pressing the following multi-key combination:
Shift Control Option Power-button
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to attempt to start the computer normally.
The instructions above are for the 1.5GHz PowerBook G4; the instructions MAY be different if that is not your model.

  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
