I am TRYING to set up a RAID 0 array on my PC.
System Information is as follows:
MOTHERBOARD - GIGABYTE GA-7VM400M
SATA RAID Controller Card - SABRENT SBT-SRD2 with Silicon Image Sil3512 chipset
HARD DRIVES - 2 x Western Digital WD2500 SATA HDDs plugged into the above controller card
OTHER - CD/DVD-ROM connected on the IDE bus
I want to install the OS (WinXP) on a striped RAID 0 array. I do not have any other HDD's connected with only the IDE DVD-ROM attached.
I don't know what I am doing wrong, but the RAID BIOS, where you configure your RAID setup doesn't appear when booting.
Is there anything I need to do to make it appear? ie install/integrate the RAID BIOS with my mobo BIOS?
Should it automatically appear as it is installed on the card which is plugged into the PCI bus?
I have been able to boot from the Win XP CD-ROM and add the RAID driver (by pressing F6 during setup), but when it gets to the point where it wants me to select the partition I want to install Windows on it obviously doesn't detect a HDD or the RAID array as I have not been able to set it up.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
You are almost there. Go into your BIOS and enable RAID. Then your raid bios should show up on next boot.
Under integrated peripherals you'll need to _disable_ OnChip IDE channel 0 or channel 1 depending upon which channel is not connected to the cd/dvd rom drive. Doing that should allow the SATA RAID controller card to get detected.
Sorry I took so long to get back, just worked an emergency call 16 hrs.straight through rebuilding a 400 amp service.
OK, did you use the Silican Image SiI 3x12 SATARAID driver installation floppy disk (#1)? If so, it's possible the disk is corrupted. Use another computer with a floppy drive and try to view the files. If need be, make another floppy with all the files needed from the SATA RAID cd. Make sure the files are copied to the root directory of the A drive.
Also, when loading windows, after pushing F6 and adding the drivers (press S, etc.) IF there is more than one file listed, press S again and load that(those) file(s) too.
When it reboots, the RAID BIOS setup should come up (hit CTRL+S, or F4).
If that doesn't work, take a separate known to be good hard drive and connect it to your mobo (don't forget to re-enable the applicable OnChip IDE channel in BIOS), install Windows on that drive, then use the Sabrent cd to install the controller drivers and and the GUI interface(must have Java2 installed). Hit F4 (or CTRL+S) on re-boot.
Hope this helps, Bob
Forgot to mention that, as you should already know, the RAID 0 configuration needs to be created BEFORE attempting to install the OS. Once the RAID 0 configuration is made, the GUI can be set upon the new strip after the Windoz is installed.
Go 14,
BobB
GO 17!!!
Probably should have elaborated, that, once the RAID BIOS is created via the temporary hard drive, one can then boot to IT , THEN load the Windoz to the now detected RAID 0 stripe that is now created. Go 14.
Peace,
BobB

I have been through my BIOS a number of times but cant find where I would enable RAID?
I have checked under Integrated Peripherals, I have set the BOOT ORDER to include SCSI (as it doesn't have SATA or RAID listed).
What causes/initiates the RAID BIOS screen to appear? Is it the fact that the controller card in on the PCI bus, or is it because the mobo BIOS settings call it out.
Is it just a case of my mobo not being compatible or is the controller card no good?
I have tried to disable both IDE channels individually and separately with no success in detecting the SATA drives plugged into the controller and the RAID BIOS/Setup prompt does not appear either.
The card is detected by the mobo, as during the BIOS strartup screend and IDE detection process, it shows all of the PCI devices and is identified a "Mass Storage Controller".
I am wondering if the contreoller card is screwed?
