Intermittently my GE Spacemakerm microwave oven fails to operate, and no control panel functions work. During these times the vent door is cycling open and close. To restore normal operation the power cord must be pulled and left disconnected for a few minutes. The microwave will then operate normal for a period; and then, repeat the problem.
The unit was purchased new at Home Depot and worked fine for about a year. A GE repair man tried to fix it at a cost 0f $125.00, but the problem persists. The filter was replaced which seemed to help, but did not fix the problem.
Is the a simple answer or should this just be a confusion that owners of this model of oven must tolerate? I hope not. Any answers would be very much appreciated
Sounds to me like a controller problem, if you paid $125 to have the oven fixed and it didn't get fixed, myself I would raise hell.
Tell the repair guy to come back out and fix the thing, I understand about the "call out" charge, and I sure wouldn't pay it the second time, after all he didn't fix the problem, sorry Charlie trying doesn't cut it.

What is your full model number from the tag on the unit?
What did the repair man do to the oven?
The repair center should have a guarantee on their work - did you call them about that?
I would suspect that you have a failed electrolytic capacitor on the control circuit board (smart board).
We see this kind part failure often, and it causes odd buzzing and odd operation, depending on the model.
We regularly repair such control units for
customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a
week with a one-year guarantee.
