Kenmore Microwave Oven Sudden Power Reduction

My Kenmore microwave (model 665.61683101) 1500 W oven worked great for several years. It was on an electric circuit with outlets in the house. Recently, with my new TV and exiting microwave on at the same time caused the citcuit breaker to trip. The electrican I hired placed the microwave oven on its own circuit by running a new wire from the panel box to the oven. A new 15amp circuit breaker was installed. Immediately, thereafter it takes over twice as long to cook items. The electrican came back and checked the wiring in the panel box and said he sees no reason why there is reduced power to the microwave. The old circuit was also on a 15amp breaker. Any ideas as to the cause of the greatly reduced power output?

I tried all steps you suggested, except for installing the magnetron. Both of the steps did not help. I am willing to order/install the magnetron part, but I first need to know if this is something a homeowner can do. I know nothing about microwave overs. My owners manual says nothing about replacing this type of part. I do not know where on the unit I would find the magnetron. Any help would be appreciated. I will order the part only if I can safely install it. Thanks

I would be sure to check the microwave's outlet under a load.

One good way is to use a toaster or hair dryer for about a minute to see if they run at full power and run without their heating elements dimming.

If the power at the outlet is steady, I would suggest a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If it still fails to heat properly, I would say you have a failing magnetron, and it would just be a coincidence that the failure began after the new wiring was installed.

If you need to order the magnetron, Sears sells it for $73.13, but you can get it for $41.84 here.

I have a Kenmore Elite Mod 721.63683300. At first I would occasionally get an F9 error once every 5 or 6 times I would use it. Now, I no longer get an F9 error, but power is reduced to about 50% as indicated by everything taking about twice as long to cook. I did a power off reset with no luck. Does the magnetron have a reduced power failure mode? Post Solution

After I entred the desired minutes, when I press START it does not work. And if I press the ADD MINUTES, it is not working. Please can you tell me any solution. Can this problem be due to not cleaning the...

HELLO.

The steps to the solution are as follows.

Off the microwave oven and it.

Then plug the microwave oven and power on the microwave.

Allow the microwave oven to load itself.

Then reset the timing program.

Test the microwave for normal operation.

NOTE:if the problem persist, cleaning the microwave is the next solution.Below is the solution to cleaning the microwave oven.
  • Remove oven racks and soak them in soapy water.
  • Turn on your automatic oven cleaner; this usually entails locking the door and turning the function switch to "clean."
  • Let the oven do its work; it will heat for several hours, charring off baked-on foods.

Thanks.

Microwave stopped heating

I had the same oven for one and a half years and had the same problem. Had the sears repairman come out and he said the magnetron burned out and needed replacing for $285. It was never under warranty with the warranty that came with oven. I couldn't believe it! We had an independent repairman look at it and he found a design flaw that causes the magnetron to blow. If you replace the matnetron (megnatron?) it will work for awhile, maybe, but then just need to be replaced again. It's cheaper to buy a new microwave. In fact, I got out our old microwave that's over 20 yrs. old and still works--just isn't as fast and as new ovens. Good luck!

Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it.

Door switch If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

Kenmore elite microwave touch screen stopped working

Same thing happened to us. We just came back from Sears, where we bought another. Just for giggles, my wife suggested unplugging the old one and plugging it back in again. It works now. New one's going back to the store.
