Closed captions will not work thru my tv remote

Bought a new DYNEX TV. Upgraded my comcast to DVR and High Definition. Now, the closed captioned button on my TV remote, will not work. I must go thur the comcast cable box to turn it off or on.

I have friends with other brands of TV and same comcast setup and their c.c. works thru their TV remote.

I must turn off the power to the cable box, then press menu, then enable or disable the close captions. A lot of trouble each time I want to turn c.c. on or off.

why does DYNEX TV remote not turn the c.c. on or off, when using comcast?

Yes , I have the same problem ! there are times when I would like to use my cc , but can't, unless I go through the cable box , which means SHUTTING IT OFF and changing the setting that way , and then SHUTTING IT OFF again to stop cc . I have the Comcast Motorola box.

I have a Dynex tv. CC worked fine until moved and got new Comcast service. Now CC cannot be turned on with tv remote. Any ideas? I called Dynex and they rather uselessly said to take the tv back to the store where I bought it.

Johhny I am a biunclear about your situation. The post you submitted fell under a Dish Network 811 receiver which is a hi definition receiver but is without DVR. Do you have Dish or Comcast or both. If you have Dish what receiver type do you have?

I have a 32 inch Upstar LED TV. How do I turn off closed captioning?

On the remote there is a button for Subtitles. Press that button and the Subtitles will disappear. If it is not on the remote then you have to find it in the TV's settings. 'Closed captions' are old words. We now call these 'Subtitles' and all TV's with remotes have a 'Subtitle' button. Look for it, then press while pointing the remote to the TV.

My closed caption on my new dynex 26L 150A11 will not turn on. I have followed all instructions in the book. I need the cc. any one have an answer? thanks cosycat

Hi,

There are several possibilities here so you will need to work with me to resolve this problem. In order for Closed Captioning (CC) to work, you need to make sure the CC settings are correct on the TV, and then make sure they CC is switched on. In addition, if you are using a cable or satellite receiver box, CC also needs to be switched on for these "boxes".

It's easiest to start with the TV. Please make sure you have done the following:

1. Check the Closed Caption settings are as follows from the TV on-screen menu as follows:

a) Press the "MENU" button on the DYNEX remote
b) Press the RIGHT arrow twice to highlight the "SETUP" menu
c) Press the DOWN arrow once to open the "SETUP" menu
d) Press the DOWN arrow twice to highlight "CLOSED CAPTION"
e) Press the RIGHT arrow or the "ENTER" button once to open the CLOSED CAPTION MENU
f) Make sure the Closed Caption option "CC MODE" is set to "ON". This can be changed using the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight "CC MODE" and using the LEFT/RIGHT arrows to switch between off and on.

The "Basic Selection" and "Advanced Selection" settings are for analogue and digital closed-captions respectively. In addition, the "Options" sub-menu can be used to change the size and style of the digital closed captions (Advanced Selection). All three of these options should eventually be set according to your personal preferences, but for the purposes of making sure it is working, I suggest you set them as follows:

Basic Selection = CC1
Advanced Selection = Service 1

These options are the basic settings which will display only the spoken dialogue of the TV program.

g) Press "EXIT" on the remote to close the menu and return to viewing mode.

2. Press the "CCD" button on your Dynex remote control. This can be found in the bottom right-hand corner of the remote. Each press of the "CCD" button will cycle the closed captions between ON and OFF. (CCD means Closed Caption Display)

3. Check the Closed Captions are displayed and then adjust the Basic and Advanced Selection options until the type and appearance of the closed captions are how you like them.

If you have done the above and still cannot get it to work, please let me know whether you are using a cable or satellite receiver and the brand/model number. I will then be able to assist you further.

HDMI cable hooked up, now CLOSED CAPTIONING is stuck on!

It has got to be the box. I would try to contact Scientific Atlanta if any way possible. The TV doesn't choose what inputs it shows CC.In other words, it would show it on all Inputs if it was the TV. Good luck and Thanks

We upgraded our cable service and now have HD Digital service with a DVR box. Now the closed caption option will not work on the TV. We have checked all the settings to no avail.

Closed caption is an extra for the TV tuner you have it may not be on the set for HD ie: your set is now recieveing it's picture from the cable box and not your TV tuner probab;y by scart or SVHS cable , and the equipment you have may not have Closed Caption capability check with your network supplier ..... Regards Vortash

PS will it work if you go back to normal tv I think it might .? and if it does case proved ..

How to activate "closed captioning" for a Proscan Full HD 1080P

Comcast's remote has nothing to do with closed captioning. It's on your tv remote. First, the tv has to be capable of handling closed captioning, and your's is- and second, the program must have closed captioning provided- current programs do, some older shows do not support closed captioning. Recheck your remote, and if necessary- look at the setup instructions that came with the TV- they should also be posted online at the Proscan support site.

Close captioning on HDMI

The TV will not display closed caption with HDMI input. It must either over-the-air (antenna) or composite input for the TV to manage CC.

To get CC with HDMI from your Comcast DVR, you need to configure the cable box. Instructions can be found here:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Setup

If you want CC all of the time, this works well. But since you must power-off the cable box to change the setting, switching CC on and off is a real pain.

Your set-up is similar to mine (Sharp Aquos 46" and Comcast DVR). I have the composite output from the cable box going to a DVD-recorder and on to the TV. Whenever I need CC (usually to catch some mumbled dialog), I just rewind the DVR, and switch the TV input to the composite input. Then I switch back to HDMI to continue watching in HD.

Closed caption

Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning there, or just restore the factory presets. I believe this model has a menu button on the front of the tv.

You didn't ask for it, but here's a link to the user manual, in case you need it.

Closed caption problem

I had the same issue... here's what I did.  If power off your cable box, then press the menu button, there's a selection to enable or disable Closed Captioning.  This works for both HD series Motorola boxes Comcast offers, at least in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.  Hope this helps!

Turn off closed caption on input(component) on Sharp Aquos 42"

This is what just worked for me. If I can figure this out, anyone can :) We have comcast cable hddvr box, motorola 3416, and a new Samsung HD Plasma, but try this no matter what you have...
turn your cable box off, and THEN press menu on the box. A white screen popped up and this is where I had to scroll down to and disable the captions. I couldn't believe this worked since I thought the cables were enabled on my TV since my captions were covering my cable menus, but it was the cable. I hope this helps.
