My doctor told me to keep our cough medicines in a safe place as cough medicine abuse is fairly common in teens. Is that really true?

Unfortunately yes! Dextromethorphan is a common ingredient in cough and cold medications. Teens have increasingly been using it to get high. Apparently 1 in every 10 American teens have experimented DXM based products to get high. It's good to be informed and to speak to your teens about the potential dangers.

I think the beta blocker I am taking is causing a very bad phlemy cough

Beta blocker medicines are not known for causing a persistent cough.

ACE inhibitors certainly are (eg Renitec), but it is commonly a dry cough, not like yours.

There are other classes of medicine for hypertension, so ask your doctor what the cough is, and if you can try an alternative type for a while.

I have a cough that apparently is viral. Is it worth taking cough medicines for it?

Many experts believe that viral coughs will just go in their own time and that cough medicines are just a placebo ( ie they make people feel like they are doing something to get rid of the cough). But some cough medicines can still help relieve some of the irritating symptoms.

Speak to your local pharmacist to see if they can recommend any good syrups.

Hello doctor my kid 3yrs old having cough since from 10days i tried all medicine what to do now doctor

Hello there,

Cough medicines are being prescribed to be taken only for ONE WEEK and your kid has been taking cough medicines for almost 10 days without development to his or her health. You should stop giving him/her those medicines and immediately consult the doctor regarding your kid's cough. The cough might have complications and continuously giving her medicines without doctor's prescription is not healthy. I would advice that you take him or her to the doctor or pediatrician.
