Question about Sony VAIO VGN-CR115E/P Laptop

Driver needed for sony vaio vgn-cr115e for ACPI\SNY5001

The device manager says that there is a driver missing for the following unknown device: ACPISNY5001. I'm assuming that the driver I need is one that is listed on sony esupport but I do not know which I need.

Look for one either called 'Unknown Device' or something like 'Intel LPC Device' with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. 2. If you find this then right click the device and choose 'Properties' and then find the 'Details' tab. 3. In the drop down box one of the items will be Hardware ID. 4. Choose this option and make sure that the hardware ID is SNY5001. Only if this ID matches you can now click the 'Drivers' tab and click to 'Install Driver' as normal. 5. Select Browse my computer for driver software. 6. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. 7. Select Have Disk.... 8. Select Browse.... 9. Browse to your back-up driver .inf file. (\\FZ21_Drivers\Drivers\SFEP Driver (Sony) 7.0A - 7.0.0.5_101606_logo\SonyNC.inf) 10. Next .......... 11. If you get a warning screen, select "Install Anyway". 12. Close & Re-Boot

It has to be SFEP (Sony Firmware Extension Parser) device, usually reponsible for special buttons.
Normally you should be able to download it from Sony Website but it's not the first time they screw up - not listing all needed driver downloads.

Anyway, you can SFEP driver from http://www.vaio-link.com/os/vista/64bit/
Note: ZIP file contains both x86 and x64 drivers!

Extract file. Run "Device Manager", right click and install, point to extracted location, should install it within seconds.

For special buttons to actually do something you'll need additional Sony Software, usually called Sony Utilities or similar.

By the way, I use same driver (x64) on my different model.

    Forgot to mention: Download link is for Vista, also works for Windows 7 beta. Sony Support sitehttp://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-lis... mentions Windows Vista OR Windows XP. You have to tell what OS you are using.
    Not sure if this driver also works on Windows XP.

    HI.

    In my case it was the SD reader device that was not recognized. I installed all the files that sony provides and it didn't get recognized.

    I tell Windows 7 to look for the drivers on C:\ and "Include subdirectories" and it started to look for it on the HDD, until he find it.

I have tried the install disk for vista and it tells me there is a device driver missing but i do not know which one and cannot figure out which
Hi,

I am assuming that you need a driver for something that's missing from the computer and your not trying to install Vista.

If you go to "Device Manager" and have a look in the list for a device with a question mark next to it, that will tell you what the driver pertains to unless it says unknown device. Unknown device can usually mean the chipset or an add on.

If you right click on the device and select update driver then it may install it for you.
You can get to Device Manager by right clicking Computer, select Manage and then Device Manager.

Alternatively you can perform a Microsoft Update and see if that detects the device.

Multimedia audio controller
This indicates that the sound drivers are missing from your computer. You will have to identify the sound card that is installed on your computer before proceeding with downloading the correct driver. To identify the sound card, follow the steps below (Assuming that you are using Windows XP)

  1. Open Device Manager (Right-click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager)
  2. The hardware whose drivers are missing will appear as Unknown device, so it’s easier to locate the device.
  3. Right click on the unknown device and click on Properties.
  4. Under the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id from the drop down box.
  5. You should see a code similar to this
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DC&SUBSYS_30868086&REV_01\4&1E46F438&0&40F0
  6. The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID. In this example:
    Vendor ID = 8086
    Device ID = 27DC
  7. Once you have obtained both the IDs, proceed to www.pcidatabase.com . There you can either search for the vendor from the vendor ID or directly get information about the device along with the vendor name by searching with the device ID.
