Water on/off is in the wrong position after changing the moen cartridge in my shower

I replace the posi-temp cartridge in my shower today, and when the handle was in the off position (down, 6 o'clock) there was water flow. water was flowing from down position to up position . water was off in the up position (at 12 o'clock), and hot water to the left (9-12 o'clock) I asked for some advice, and they suggested that I remove the cartridge, replace it with another one but turn it 180 degrees. when i did this, i ended up with the same results. How do i get my water to turn on and off in the correct positions? thanks

This is a common issue. You can see a good animation on replacing your cartridge and reversing the Cold/Hot funstion Here:http://www.moen.com/consumer-support/ins... . The animation on reversing the Hot/Cold is at the end of the replace cartridge instruction.

Put your cartridge back the way it was originally. By rotating 180 you reverse the hot and cold. Leave the handle and plastic adapter off. Turn on your water supply and turn valve with the plastic adapter until the water is shut off. Remove the adapter and install it with the set screw for handle facing down. Put your handle back on and that should take care of problem. (I did the exact same thing as you today....small world)

SOURCE: Upon installation of a one handle Moen shower

you need to adjust the little gear like..plastic part under handle..plus hot water must be on so that the pressure is balance..the cartridge also needs to be adjusted so water is off on off position

My single moen posi temp shower knob wil not completely turn off my water. In the closed position it still runs a slow stream of water.

Remove the handle and see if it will turn off without the handle and if it will reposition the handle alignment and your good to go. If no the cartridge will need to be replaced.

Had a leaky Moen Posi-Temp shower faucet. Installed an Ace Hardware replacement cartridge. Fixed the leak, but now have a water hammer noise in the vicinity of the shower. Is this a common problem with...

I'm not aware of any problems with non moen replacement parts being the cause for a water hammer problem. Start with the simplest and cheapest correction which is using a moen replacement cartridge. If the water hammer persists then you may have to install a water hammer arrester in the plumbing system. This is basically a shock absorber in the plumbing system to stop the effect of water hammer. An arrester will cost you around $10 to $15 at your local plumbing supply shop. If you are not comfortable soldering copper then you will want to hire a licensed plumber to complete the work for you.

I had the same type of problem with an older toilet in my house. It developed a water hammer when it shut off after filling the tank. I replaced the fill valve with a generic universal replacement for about $10 and it stopped. Again sometimes the simplest fix will work. Let me know how it works out.

Installed new Moen posi-temp cartridge. Hot & cold water is correct but water will not shut of*** the way.

I just had the same experience, except I used a non-Moen cartridge. (It was from Ace Hardware, and Ace told me that Danco was the manufacturer.) When I pulled the cartridge back out, one of the two hard plastic seals on the side of the cartridge had torn, presumably on the sharp metal opening on the water supply pipe. I'm guessing there's something wrong with one or both of the seals on your new cartridge.

My Moen Posi-Temp tub valve runs only very cold or very hot. whats wrong?

Your Moen valve is equiped with an anti-scald device (as part of the valve cartridge) which prevents someone from getting scalded by hot water if there's a sudden demand for cold water, i.e. a toilet flush, washing machine filling, etc. Fortunately Moen stands behind their products and will provide a new cartridge.
Contact Moen and describe your problem.

Waters hot instead of cold when you turn it on

You have to remove cartridge and rotate 180 degrees then re-install. Was it removed or replace lately?
